OCZ-Vertex2

I had Win7 installed on a Velociraptor drive with ACHI.
I simply backed it up with the Win7 backup, replaced the Velociraptor with the OCZ Vertex2 straight from the box, then booted to the Microsoft "System Repair" disk I had made in the backup. I just told it to restore everything from the Velociraptor drive to the OCZ drive, and it worked fine. When the system came up it recognized the OCZ drive as an SSD. I just forced the swap area to be on the D drive, and everything seems fine.

I'm a little worried about the SMART "Reallocated Sector Count", but the numbers haven't changed since I installed so I suspect it's OK.

I tried turning off "disk caching". This made the system slow and weird, so I turned it back on. Supposedly this SSD has no internal cache.

The Smart read there is an error on the HDTune's part. It's fine. Mine is the same way. Some of the bench apps out can't read the Smart right on these ATM. Crystaldiskinfo supposedly does though.

You should try the AS SSD Benchmark, it factures in random reads more than write, less for sequential, and the access time. Gives a weighted score.

There was some small changes on score system from 1.0 to 1.1. Score System gives lot more points for random-values than for sequentual.
It is Score=seq_write * 0.15 + seq_read * 0.1 + 4k_read * 2 + 4k_write + 4_64thrd_write + 4_64thrd_read * 1.5

Probably the most important result in an SSD benchmark is the random 4K. I like the results here, particularly in the 64 threaded test.

I see you added the AS SSD benchmark in, looks good.

You should get a bit better performance with the Intel RST 9.6.0.1014 files for 64-bit OS driver.

I already have them installed. I've found out this is typical results for the 180GB drive. Rumor has it they have less nands than some of the other ones, like the 100GB.

Your AS SSD said msahci, so you changed it to Intel, should show some improvement.

The nands usually go up with the GBs, must be bigger.

Cool. Every one of your scores went up with the RST drivers. Some more than others but none of them went backwards. Your two screenshots are a good comparison of the two drivers and the benefits, in your case, of the RST drivers.

That looks better.

I've seen other SSDs gain more from the Intel drivers, it's an improvement anyway.

You can see some comparisons at AS SSD Benchmark thread.

Mine was the fastest X25-V, until the previous guy re-ran his, he's very competitive

Read about these Intel RST beta 10.0.0.1043 drivers. A lot of users saying they show marked improvement in reboot/boot up time, and some overall improvements running ssds in RAID and single. Rumors saying they might enable trim in RAID, from users reporting marked improvements in their RAID setups after a few days. No solid proof of the working trim in RAID that I found though. I installed them, went just fine for me. Only showing a 2 or 3 second reboot time difference so far my single setup, but going to wait a day or so and run a test or two again.

If you google Intel RST 10.0.0.1043, you can read the different reports of them being used. All good reviews pretty much so far.

So far, it does seem to be a bit quicker, haven't verified it yet.

First couple of bootups were faster than my average.

May have a SSD read hiccup, will test it some more.
