Give me a few minutes. I can probably find something for you. In the meantime, find the hardware id of the audio device by using the device manager. Right click it, choose properties. Details tab. Change property dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste what's there.

This should do well for you.

http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R90698.EXE

If it doesn't install simply by running, you should install with device manager after it extracts, using the .inf.

Right click audio device, update driver software, browse, let me pick, have disk, browse.

Open the. inf.
Find a line with this: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E
if there is anything after that, starting with the &, delete it.

For example,
if it's like this: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_01821028
make it this: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E instead

Save .inf. Install manually like before.

Alright Sweny. I must be having a brain slowdown. I had a better look at the .inf for what I previously gave you and that is not designed for your hardware. Completely my error (and also resource I used to get it.)

Let me give this a little better attention. I know how important it is to you to get this working.

I will download what Jabau gave you right now to see if I can figure out why it will not install for you. I'll post back with my findings or whatnot in an edit to this post in a little bit.

EDIT -

Sweny. I see no reason at all why Jabau's driver does not work for you. It is correct and contains this line in the .inf which is for your device.

"%STAC97.DvDscInt%=STAC97, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_01821028"

Run the .exe so it extracts to C:\Dell

Install with device manager after it extracts, using the .inf.

Right click audio device, update driver software, browse, let me pick, have disk, browse.

When at browse step, navigate to C:\dell\drivers\R99254\WDM
and choose Stac97.inf

Thanks Jabau. +1 rep

Maybe your download is getting corrupted, here is a zipped up copy of the driver files, taken from my D610. If when you extract this it ends up corrupted then there is a good chance that something is wrong with your connection that is damaging the files you download.

dell d610 sigmatel audio

I had this same problem on my dell latitude d610.

Here is what worked for me. I downloaded the driver from the dell website.
http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R99254.EXE

right clicked on the download, clicked properties, under compatibility I chose run this program in compatibility mode for windows XP service pack 3, clicked ok. Then followed the dialogs.

No guarantees but it solved my sound problem.

It might be too late...but I was having this same problem with a Windows 7 32 bit IBM ThinkCenter A51 machine.
Sound not working and no driver for the sound card (multimedia audio).
The VENDOR was 8086 and DEVICE of 266E and I kept trying all kinds of drivers but none worked. Kept giving me code 10 can't start in device manager.

The solution was to download the AC'97 driver from the www.realtek.tw/downloads webpage.
1) http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
2) AC'97 Audio Codes (Software)
3) click on the "I accept" button and click on next
4) Choose your operating system:
I chose this:
Vista/Win7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file)
5) I downloaded this file:
6305_Vista_Win7_PG537.zip (29.6MB)
6) I unzipped the file and installed it and now it is working.
7) Rebooted just to be sure and still worked.
