Solved simple task scheduler question: changing a task name

Hello,

I scheduled some tasks in the task scheduler. One of the tasks has a typo and another I would like to change its name. There doesn't seem to be a way of doing this short of resetting up the tasks from scratch and deleting the original tasks. Would anyone know how to rename tasks in the task scheduler without having to go through creating the task from scratch?

You can't directly, however there is a way that this can be achieved. In Task Scheduler, highlight the task in question. Click on Export... and choose a location to save the file (Desktop is as good a place as any). Click Save. In Windows Explorer, browse to the location where you saved the file. You can then rename it as normal. Back in Task Scheduler, click on Import Task... and browse to the now renamed file. Click OK. Now highlight the original task (remember that there will now be 2 tasks, one with the original name and one with the new name) and click Delete.

All other task properties, apart from its identification name, can be changed/modified directly.

Thanks for the replies - I appreciate the time taken to help me out. Though, I read up on schtasks and while the "TN" switch allows you to specify the task name, it is only to indicate which task's properties to change and none of the switches indicates a name change of the task itself (unless I am misunderstanding something).

I just did the renaming of the task. I discovered that you don't have to rename the task if when you click on export and the dialog comes up for saving, you just specify the file name to save it as as the one you want it called when you import it. So you just click export, save and import and its done.
