Hi Guys

I've read through some excellent posts on this forum with hope to install windows 7 but keep getting error message 'Unable to install to partition 0.... etc'

The hardrive is the original one that came with the laptop and all the data thankfully has been kept on an external drive. I just want to install a clean copy of Windows 7 on the original drive.

The hard drive has been completely formated and cleaned many times but at the point ' Where do you want to install windows screen I try to create a partition eg. 30GB then try to install and it states "Unable to install to Disk 0 partition 1." I then click on (Show details) and it reads:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk, Ensure the disks controller is enabled in the Bios menu

The last thing I have tried from help on this forum search was as below through the CMD prompt:
  1. DiskPart <ENTER>
    list disk <ENTER>
    select disk 0 <ENTER>
    clean <ENTER>
    create partition primary align=1024 <ENTER>
    format fs=ntfs <ENTER> (Will Take a While)
    assign <ENTER>
    active <ENTER>
    exit <ENTER>
    exit <ENTER>
  2. After it completes, exit the INSTALL COMPLETELY and reboot.
  3. Once you are back in, go about installing Windows just DO NOT ALLOW Windows to create a new partition, use the only one there.
But this unfortunately did not work either.
So im calling on you experts to try and get my laptop working again I hope !

Your 30 GB partition will be getting full fairly quick. I would suggest making at least a 64GB and closer to 100 GB if possible. == On to your problem. Are your trying to install with a Win 7 DVD on your DVD Drive? You need to boot to your BIOS and be sure that your Boot Order has the DVD first boot and your HDD as the next boot. Check the Boot Order and let us know the result. == Make sure only the Hard Drive that you are installing Windows on is connected to the PC. Unplug all others. Just to be sure, you are not installing Windows on the External Drive, correct? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

Ususally you`ll get that message when trying to install to a GPT initialized drive.

Convert it to MBR if that is the issue.

Use Diskpart like you did above, I believe the command is convert mbr

I have converted to MBR using the elevated CMD prompt but still get:

windows cannot be installed to this disk

Set up was unable to create a new system partition .......

Interestingly I went back into CMD to see if I could create a partition that way as below with the following error:

>diskpart - enter
>list disk -enter

DISK ### STATUS SIZE FREE DYN GPT
