Hi all

My Daughter bought a new PC with lots of everything (ie memory, HHD, video card etc) with windows 7 installed, We installed Sims 2 and it seemed to work fine, then she tried to install the expansion packs and the problems started

Now when she tries to start the game, the first startup window comes up, when she clicks on the "play" button, it looks like its wants to start but then nothing

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling

Pretty frustrating...

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Brian

Hi Brian,

Has she tried running the game in Compatibility Mode? Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Cheers,

Hi

Yes, we've tried everything, reinstalling, compatibility mode, deleting the cache files etc etc

This PC is brand new, 4 days old (Gateway dx4831-01c) loaded with Win 7 home edition 64bit, initially, Sims 2 installed and ran fine then problems started shortly after.

Turns out...

Since my original post, we've been getting the Blue screen with it indicating hardware failure and a constant reboot so the PC is going back tomorrow for a replacement

Once we get another PC, we'll update you on how Sims 2 works in the replacment

Thanks for your help
Brian

Ugh, sounds frustrating :/ but keep us posted Brian, I'm interested to know how it turns out.

Also, don't let the retailer you bought the PC from try to tell you the game isn't compatible with Windows 7 64-bit Home -- because it definitely is.

LOL

We went the faulty PC back to the vendor armed with info, they tried to tell us that it was a software issue when clearly the Blue screen we kept getting indicated hardware failure. (I don't remember the code that was with it)

We got the PC replaced and I have installed the game plus all of the other software we need, so far, we've had one Blue screen and it was a "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION 0X0000003B message which I researched on this site to be a firewall issue so I disabled it as directed by the person who solved the issue, hopefully, that'll fix it up

So far....all is good

This site is AWESOME! Without it, I would be lost!

Thanks everyone for your knowledge and time :D

Its a bad idea to disable the built in Windows software firewall unless you have a good replacement. I'd have returned the PC and built a proper one without issues. You should also update your drivers now using the drivers guide in my sig and then create a stable image of 7 - install DirectX too.

Glad to hear it's working for now.. the collective knowledge of the internets is exponentially more valuable than a store clerk's, you just have to know how to access it. Good job ;) Let us know if you run into issues in the future!
