SIW (System Information for Windows)

I've been using the free version of SIW (build 0526, predates the malware packing), and have been considering buying the Technician's version. I'm concerned with the developer's rep for malware inclusion. Are the paid tech versions malware free?

SIW - Malware free?

Hi.

I just installed the free 64bit version and it's bundled with Open Candy. There's no way to opt out of installing Open Candy when you run the SIW installer. I would assume that the paid for version is the same.

I can't confirm that without installing the paid version of SIW - and I don't wish to purchase it!

It does state clearly in the license agreement that Open Candy will be installed. I guess you could buy the paid for version and run the installer. Inspect the license agreement and if Open Candy is mentioned - close the installer. If you like I can let you know how to clean install the SIW software without Open Candy and there are a few ways of doing this. Basically if you prevent the .dll shown below from running - SIW will install cleanly.

I don't really need the installable version. I do have a free portable that pre-dates the malware inclusion. The dev has developed a rep for the malware. I wouldn't think that the paid portable version includes it, but safer to check before buying.

As far as the installed version (which I don't need), I assume that the malware could be removed by unpacking opening the exe with 7zip and removing the malware files. That's what I wound up doing with the last version of imgburn.

One way to get a malware free portable version is to get the Portable Apps version, but I don't want PA.

I guess what I'm really looking for is confirmation from a source independent of dev that the paid tech version (portable) is malware free.

SIW and Open Candy

Well I'd also assume that the paid version doesn't include Open Candy but can't confirm so sorry about that. Maybe if you're lucky someone using the paid version will read your thread and post the information!

I have the paid version and get no garbage with it. It does give computer information that the free version doesn't.
