Hey, basically, around 6 months ago we purchased sky unlimited 20mb internet, Because of where we live(Country-ish) we could only get 14mb per second which was fine, we were happy with that, so we went ahead, got it all set up and it was all great, now for the last month or so the max we have had is 8mb per second with some days it will be around 3...What should we do? Phone up and complain?

Keep a record of your usage and speeds you are getting for about one week .. If you think you are not getting the speeds you should be .. Then call them and Complain stating their not keeping up their end of the contract .. Most ISPs at certain times of the day can be slower that is normal ..

Suggestions?

Hi,

Well there's probably not much you can do to get the advertised maximum speed but in my case improvements were made after performing the following:

(I'm not suggesting that you should do this. It's just information to consider);

Tweaked connection settings using

SG TCP Optimizer

Also take a look at:

TCP Optimizer Help

Checked wiring and master socket. Checked external wiring. Checked for interference from other networks (I'm using a wireless connection).

More ideas

Hi again,

Just remembered that a family member once had some connection speed issues. Some days it was okay and some days it wasn't. It turned out that when it rained or was very cold the problem got worse. It was a cracked external cable tacked to the outside wall that was contracting in cold weather and getting wet internally when it rained!

Something else that I've used in the past but don't currently use is ICSI Netalyzer. The reason that I'm not using it at the moment is because it requires Java and I don't have it installed.

Here's the link if you want to run it and get a report. It's free to use.

ICSI Netalyzr

A little help on interpreting the results can be found here:
