I have been trying to load Skype on a new laptop and during the download I get the message:
Unable to load Skype Toolbar.
Yet when I try to load this on my desktop it loads ok both the program and the toolbar.

Any Skypers out there.

Thanks for any advice.

Is it possible that your firewall or other security settings (or anti-virus or anti-spyware apps) might be preventing Skype from installing?

Some people find the items in the Skype toolbar useful. Maybe the question should be, are there any items in the Skype toolbar that you would find useful on your screen, or can you easily access those functions another way?

So happyman, does it seem like, in spite of the error message, that Skype downloaded correctly? Do you have all of your functions, and do they work properly?

Hi Imperfect1 - Yes, Skype works fine for me - all parts of it, although I have found that once in a while I do get a "bad connection", so to speak, but redialing the caller usually fixes the problem.

I do have to say though that Skypes quality isn't quite what it used to be several years ago. It seems like the more customers they get, the worse their service gets - they also recently doubled the price for non-skype out calls (that is calls directly to a land line) although it's still really cheap. When I first started using Skype it was ALL FREE.

I use skype with a Logitech WIRELESS stereo headset and boom mic so I can walk all around the house while on a Skype call - pretty cool (the Logitech wireless headset utilizes a small USB thumb drive sized "transmitter"). It's not bluetooth so there isnt any pairing tasks. I get about 35 feet of range.

Haven't tried Goggle Talk yet but thats completely free until 2012 - I guess it's supposed to work like Skype but without all of Skypes features. If you ant to use it all you have to do is get a free Gmail account :D:D:D
