Sleep causing i5 2500k core 0 to pin at 100%

OK so I have a problem with my system when I wake it from sleeping. Before going to sleep everything is fine and working the way it should but after waking it from sleep my core 0 is fully pinned at 100%. It seems to only happen when putting the system to sleep. Has this ever happened to anyone and if so what did you do to fix it?

open control pannel and look at the running apps, both windows and services and look to see if any apps are using large amounts of cpu power.

Does it drop back to normal percentages at some point?

It could be a system error in determining core usage. As in, it's not actually doing that, just reporting it.

What program are you using to test this out? You should take a look at the core temperature using a good reliable temp. monitor. If temps are low (similar to temps a few minutes after you boot) you know it's a usage reporting issue, not a CPU usage issue.

If the temperatures indeed do rise... someone savvy with hardware issues shall chime in.

No it does not drop to normal levels after a while of operation. I'm using CPUID Hardware monitor to watch temperatures. This happens everytime I put the machine to sleep then after I wake it up all of a sudden it's always that one core of the processor being run at a full 100% and it shows by the temperature increase. I've looked at all the processes and services and there is nothing else running other than system idle and kernel. I'm just a little baffled by this that's all. Everything runs great and I love Windows 7 but I think I'll just stick to shutting the system down instead of using the sleep function.

I have this exact same issue but with an I7-2600K, Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, nVidia GTX550ti and Corsair RAM. Task manager doesn't show any processes using up the core, i.e. System Idle Process is at 99% and nothing else is showing any CPU usage, but the graph on the Performance tab shows the core racing along. The temperature climbs too. Our systems are so different that it must be an issue with Windows and the Z68 and perhaps unlocked processors.

Any known fix?

Hello all. Type resmon in the Start Search and hit enter, this will open Resource Manager. Go to the memory tab, look for large RAM users. You can sort each column by clicking it to bring the highest user to the top. report back what you find.
Als ocheck the drive tab to see if some process is doing a lot of reading/writing.

RESMON shows that "System Interrupts" is consuming allot of CPU time when this is happening.`

So we have a misbehaving driver - it would be interesting to simply install Windows (and nothing else - no software, drivers, etc) and see if the problem persists there (is it a problem with a driver Windows ships, or one that was installed afterwards).

Does anyone have game boosters, down loaders installed? They cause issues. Try reinstalling USB, graphics, and audio drivers. Use Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper to uninstall them one at a time. Download the newer or the same driver and save to your desktop first to have it ready to install.

I updated the BIOS and the Intel Rapid Store stuff, no change. I even tried with it running at normal clock speeds, nada. I then manually compared all the drivers in Windows with the ones available from Asus and updated the ones that had newer versions (Realtek gigabit, Intel video and perhaps the sound drivers). That fixed it. No more racing Core-0 after waking from S3 sleep. I don't know which driver it was, but it was one of them. Thanks for the input.

Hi Syxx676, read the whole thread to see what was done. One person updated his drivers to fix it. Others never got back to us.

It's been a while, but I believe it was one of the motherboard drivers. After updating them all with newer versions from the manufacturer's (Asus) site, it was fixed. I didn't test after updating each one, so I don't know which one was the problem. I'd start with the network and USB drivers.

This forum is a little old, but not for the same problem I was having. It's took me a few days to narrow down this "Interrupts" processes issue. So I going to explain what fix it for me, in hopes that it might help other who may be having the same problem too. I realized if I enabled hibernate, then my core thread 6 stopped racing like a horse, when I would wake my computer up from sleep mode. I don't use the hibernate mode, just the sleep mode. I wouldn't mind leaving hibernate enbled, but that uses up 10 GB of hard drive space. The solution was to turn my Paging Files back on and to disable hibernate. Right now it is all working now, with using no less than 18Mb for paging. At 16Mb I start having problems with core thread #6 racing again when I wake my comuter up from sleep mode.
