Hi, Everyone personally i never had a problem with any os since win 95 i never used ME but used all others 95 ,98,98se,xp pro ,Vista home prem I think everytime a new os comes out of course some negative things are going to be said

I learned over the years if you've havn't experienced it yourself how do you know it sucks or it is complacated for use me being who i am and what i know i don't even listen to people's opinion because alot of times they are just saying what someone else said and pretty much have no proof

Anyhow win 7 for me has been awesome very stable i switch from vista to this there about the same but win7 has more support thats about it

Windows ME was even worst. Win 7 is just a heavily tweaked version of vista

XP ran solid for me and I never went to Vista simply because I knew my hardware was not up to it. For some it's too hard to understand the system requirements on the box, or they belittle the ink they're written in. This isn't to say that a system meeting or exceeding the requirements won't have bugs to work out. Rather, wait before diving in and do your research. Even then expect that an OS upgrade may take some work.

I couldn't get Vista Home Premium 32bit to work for me at all. Despite turning UAC off and also having a 'full' Admin account set up on it (the ONLY account) it would not function the way it was supposed to. This prevailed even after multiple clean installs also... every time I tried to change advanced systems settings or pretty much anything requiring Admin permissions, it would tell me I didn't have them and not let me change anything. Maybe I just got a bad OEM copy... I don't know, I just know it didn't work right and still doesn't.

The straw that finally broke the camel's back was how it WOULD NOT update itself for over a year no matter what I tried to do to fix it, and it always returned the same error code that NOBODY had an explanation or solution for (not even Microsoft itself). There STILL is not a solution to that problem even now. So, it's now my mom's laptop because all she does it play a few games and surf the web.

Screw Vista, I'm glad it was replaced by Win 7. I'm just disappointed that we got screwed and are stuck with it on that laptop because it STILL doesn't operate properly. Microsoft and/or Dell should have offered us a free complimentary upgrade to Win 7 for the hassle of having a practically useless $1,500 PC thanks to Vista. But because we bought it in the middle of 2008, they wouldn't and won't and I'm not paying another $100 for another OS.

They didn't offer XP on that Dell Inspiron 1525, otherwise that would have been it's OS for us. At least XP doesn't give me any crap like Vista did on our six-year old desktop! I'd even take a downgrade back to XP... but they won't do that either.


By the way, I still prefer XP. Win-7 is great, but a lot of my older games won't play on it (early Command and Conquer games come to mind). Wish they were still offering it or else a virtual run-time of it on win-7 for us gamers that just aren't ready to say RIP to our older games... tweaking compatibility only does so much, most of the time it doesn't work at all. What a shame!

ha ha, yes. I also switched my sister and brother in law onto Vista, and there were no complaints there either.

I would have liked to expand on the sample group. I hypothesise that with mass extrapolation of exposure, the amount of bad Vista press would have been significantly reduced.


A much as I liked Vista and was seeming amongst the vocal minority in supporting it, I personally couldn't go back to it as a daily OS.

It's been said countless times before, and will be said countless times again - but without Vista, Seven wouldn't be what is today. And for that, I am thankful.

Well... I've tested frm Windows 98 to now 7... and I must say that by now, to me the best is Windows 7... no offense, but Windows 98 had some bad points regarding memory management (BSODs once or twice a month), Windows ME was the WORST (I had to defragment my HD when using that OS VERY WEEK, o I reduced the BSODs to once a week or less... but not always worked) and memory management was almost absent... then I tested 2000 and XP... and XP was better just after SP1 (yes... Xp had it's bas history), I stayed with XP until I isntalled 7... I never tied vista just because the problems it exhibited with others PC... I ended up downgrading to XP a lot of desktops and laptops... Vista was slow (even with 2 GB systems, Dual cores and Sata disks) and was the only compliant I saw with it from tthe people that asked me to downgrade their machines... besides other facts (Indexing service hanging up windows shutdown, or taking 15 minutes to do so... lots of memory being eat by windows in statup...) That's why I never tried Vista, but still have the x86 and x64 disks in case someone wants the OS installed on their systems (never happened until now)...

I must say that Microsoft should have done a campaign with x64 version over x86, because, stange or not, x64 was somewhat faster than x86, and is not just the extra 32 bit used in the OS... obviously, over Vista, 7 looks smoother and faster, but is not exent of problems, for example, many apps that use multimedia stuff (video) like some video players or emulators need the new DWM stutter fix, so you get full fps, otherwise, it looks weird... but hey!! I guess that sfter SP1, Windows 7 will be moe stable and will include other features, this is the same story with NT based OSes since Windows NT itself.

My conclusion: at least on my own, is not just people that didn't try Vista, Vista itself was a heavier OS and people was too used with XP... even in virtual enviornments you see the difference, 7 runs smoother, but at least Vista was the beginning of what we have now.

I have a few computers and so do some of my friends with a similar config and Vista ran fast (as fast as xp) and in some cases Vista ran faster than Windows 7.

Honestly, whatever other people say, you will never truly experience Vista unless you install it on your machine.

Yeah, There would never have been Windows 7 if it wasn't for Vista. That said I found Vista, graphicly, was a relieve from the tiresome, old, boxy and shabby XP UI .

Mainstream support for Vista doesn't end until 2012, so it's conceivable that it could get SP3.

I have tried early Vista personally and did not like or get on with it so went back to XP and didn't re-install Vista. I'm sure there are lots like me who did not want to go through the Vista experience again and just waited for 7 to appear. As we can see from the figures, 7 has become a helluva lot more popular than Vista ever was, I think probably due to the beta test releases giving it a lot of free publicity and also a wider base of testers and opinion givers. (Yeah, Windows ME definitely sucked!!)

Vista was not as bad as many people said, companies probably had old hardware designed for XP

I think Vista is not bad at all. Its underrated. Perhaps I would recommend Windows 7 over it but its better than XP.

Its visual things, if you had the right hardware is not a problem at all and many people (XP users) find the UAC a strange module and think oh.. its a pain without learning to disable it anyway if that is the case. All this negative propaganda damaged its reputation as well. But I had more problems with XP than Vista. If you tweak it right, its so much better than XP.

The only thing that sets it down for me is that its a resource hog when it comes to restore points, there is no slider that can allocate it other than 15% of the disk space. You have to use that tricky command line thing so that you can make a custom space allocation for restore points other than 15%.

I still use Vista for everything. Dad came home with a Windows 7 DVD one day, and I said that I didn't want it, and he could have it! I loved Vista, and I still do!

If you like XP, use it.

If you like Windows 7, use it.


I have nothing against any OS, some preferences but nothing against them.

The fact that ReadyBoost works on 7 is great. Vista, not so well. R.B. works quite well on my overburdened laptop.

Also I don't think I can ever live without the Snap-To feature from this point on, as well as the accessible/selectable Thumbnail previews. Multi-tasking with 7 is SOOO much better than with the older OS's

Just my opinion.

Still like Vista, LOVE 7
