Slow folder (music files) access (green line)?

When I access my Music files (2600 files, 185 folders, 20GBs) on my Samsung (D) drive
I get this slow green line in the address bar going from left to right, takes like 15 seconds to go across, I'm assuming it's indexing(?) the music folder and can't really do anything until that green line finishes going across, is there something I can turn on or off to speed up the "green line" so I do not have to wait the 15 seconds?
Would a SATA 6.0 drive help speed up the "green line"?

What anti-virus are you using?

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and it was slowing down browsing with Windows Explorer dramatically. I would see the green bar you mention all the time, just as you stated.

I went into MSE and changed Real Time Protection in the Settings tab under Monitor file and program activity on your computer to Monitor only incoming files and the problem disappeared.

I'm still reasonably protected but system performance has gone up considerably. I'm also behind a hardware firewall.

This wasn't always the case but has been for the last 9 months or so until I made this change.

Norton (McAfee, AVG) is a pig. Uninstall it (use the Norton Removal Tool) then install Microsoft Security $Essentials, see what that does for you,.

After removing Norton and installing ME Security Essentials, file access is faster.
Even found a Trojan that Norton missed.
Thank You Zruker

Computer is back to it's slow habits,
My storage drive is acting funny, windows scans for "problems" during boot up even before Win 7 kicks in, so I guess I'm get a new SATA 6.0 drive anyway.

A Sata6 drive will probably not going to help. Sata6 is a marketing gimmik. It does not make the HDD spin any faster. If you want performance, get a SSD.

I know the SATA 6.0 drive does not spin any faster, just hoping the SATA 6.0 interface would speed up the indexing somehow.
But as of 10 minutes ago the drive can no longer be access by windows anyway.
I have a 2 month old backup on a WD 1TB Green drive, so no real loss.

My computer Blu-ray burner device driver is having problems, switch to DVD burner, device drivers is not working for it either, updated to latest AMD 880G driver, did not help, swapped SATA cable and port, still not working, uninstalled SATA/IDE device drivers and let windows reinstall after reboot, changed nothing, wonder if my SATA ports are failing?

I would suspect the burner before the SATA ports. Much more likely to be the problem. The only way I know to find out is try it in another computer.

Turn out to be a problem with the registry. had to delete one small piece, Blu-ray now works.

Upper/Lower filters perhaps?

How did you find the problem. That info may help someone else in the future.

Thanks.

Regarding the slow music folder – try changing the folder customization to optimize for something like documents instead of music. You can do it for all folders at once from the properties of the root folder. That removes the initial freeze on my system.
