Win 7. CPU usage rarely over 50%, RAM under 6 of 8MB, and defrag done weekly, so why would app loading - especially on startup- and processing be slow? Thanks.

A SSD is the bigger hardware upgrade of the decade.
It will boot in seconds rather than in minutes.
Comparing to a laptop HDD, a SSD is more than 6 times faster.
You can clone your HDD into a SSD and put the HDD into a USB caddy to use as backup drive.
I have used Crucial SSDs. So far so good.

I'm having the same, i guess while starting the windows the apps you open first will take ram ans allocate memory first which consumes time and after assigning it, when you open for the second time it wont take that long, for e.g. when i opened firefox it literally takes 20sec after that it took just 8 secs to open.

I know its not the solution but sharing my exp with u.

They also fry up in smoke faster then a HDD, my western electric HDD, ran over 14 years almost daily.
and because of this, never buy just one SSD, buy three, back up everything on 2, so when the one your using fries, you can just drop in a copy.
I have 2 dead computers cause I learned the hard way, they are tiny things and only a SSD will fit,

all they are now is a carbon footprint
