Slow speed tests

Hello,
Since I have installed W 7 my speed test results from DSL Reports are 1.5 Mbs. With XP they were just under 3 Mbs. I have tweaked 7 for high performance and low visual. Could it be because I only have 2 gigs of memory? It really doesn't seem any slower. In fact, it seems to run faster for the most part. Any ideas on this one? Thanks, John

Been there, done that with the first link. Can't do the solid state drive. (budget issues). Scan at Crucial says I can't add more memory. Not sure I believe them, though. I was just hoping there was a tweak I missed.

Might be use of "homegroup", on some system homegroup can experience slow downloads due to its use of IPv6. Especially on older equipment (routers, nics, etc) and mixed OS networks.

You can test by creating a new network connection using workgroup and see if it resolves the problem Workgroup uses IPv4 an older protocol.

Let us know if you need help doing that.

I would need help doing that. I got the same results on that test.

I know this post is a few months old.

I have a download of 21.17 Mbps and upload of 3.42 Mbps with comcast as my provider. Yes, it is pretty fast. I found that some routers were slowing my speeds way down. If anyone feels their speed is slow then be sure to try a direct connect with out any router and do a speed test for free at Speakeasy - Speed Test then do one again with the router. If you notice a difference then you have now found your problem, the router. I run the Cisco Linksys BEFSR41 Version 4.3, not a wireless one. I don't need wireless but I have one if I ever needed one.
