Software and Hardware networking for hook up.

Hello,

I am very new about Computer networking, i have two main questions regarding what should we do if i want to hook up networking at home???

1-Computer hard ware component to hook up network
What should i have?

2-Software
My company is using Windows server 2012 with Exchange server , and all clients have own company e mail account to open with Microsoft outlook.

The question is, if i want to hook up network and study at home about computer networking as what my company has as users company e mail account etc..
What should i do to get it learning at home?


Please forgive me for my questions is not make scenes because i am poor with that.

Do you have a copy of Server and a product key?

You really don't need any equipment other than a PC and a ton of ram (less ram if you don't want to run the VM's at the same time)

Virtual Box has good options for creating a LAN network that can communicate with eachother.

As far as getting the Server software, that all depends on you. I'm a student and my College has an account with Dreamspark so I get Server 12r2, Win7, and Win 8.1 for free.

Right now i have two machines, Laptop with lastest Intel Core i7 4th Gen, RAM 16 GB, Graphick NVIDIA 2 GB...etc..
and Desktop
Please you let me know more instructions to get me into deep understanding about Networking .

I am no Networking Guru by any means, however, I think this set of videos will give you a really good understanding of Networking, setting up networks and working with Server 2012 at the same time. I learned a lot from this guy. He has a series on Networking and Servers that you could check out as well.

Yes, I would go with Virtual Box though, IMO its more stable and has better options to network your VM's.

I don't think he has a video strictly dedicated to Exchange Server but he does touch on it in a video or two. There are plenty of videos and books available for exchange.

"Networking" is just a term that we use when we connect computers together so that they can share resources.

A "Network" is a group of computers or devices that can see eachother and can share data and files.

Windows Server is just an Operating System that is used to hold the data so that those computers on the network can access it quicker and easier without needing to be physically connected to hundreds of computers.

You just need one and Virtual Box, with the 16gb ram, you should be ok.

Thats the good thing about VM's (Virtual Machines) you can install a bunch of Virtual machines without the need of any physical equipment aside from the host PC.
