Thank's for the link Tepid had wubi Kubuntu installed & 3D cube Desktop effect was pretty cool, now I have VMware + Kubuntu & 3D cube desktop doesn't work.

Note from Tepid's above quote:

The project has been renamed, you can find the new version called DeskSpace clicking here

Thanks Tepid. I've had a look at that and, as Iown mentions above, there is a supposedly better new version available called Deskspace.
However this seems to be a paid for item as it's offering a 30 day free trial. Can't find a mention of price after that though.
Has anyone tried YODM 3D or the newer Deskspace yet?
Are they good or are they a buggy waste of time or do I need to find out for myself:D

Couldn't wait for a reply so I've installed a trial version of Deskspace. I's a 14 day trial and then $25.
That's not a lot of money but it is for a piece of eye candy.
Anyway it works in W7 x64 and it looks great. Just like Compiz.
Whilst searching for it I noticed that there are still YODM 3D downloads available for free.
Apparently a company called Otaku took over YODM in 2007 and decided to sell it rather than give it away.
I'm wondering whether the 2007 free version will work in W7 x64.
As I say, it looks great but I can't imagine it's $25 better than the original free version.

Anyone got any knowledge on this?

Here's a link for Deskspace: Download DeskSpace (formerly Yod'm 3D) 1.5.7.2 Free Trial - A virtual desktop manager that features a 3d cube effect workspace changer. - Softpedia

Here's one for the last freeware version: Last Freeware version: Regi, RegStop, LaunchOnFly, Yodm 3D, BPlainPro

Further to the above.
I've uninstalled Deskspace and put in YODM 3D (from the above link). It seems pretty much the same as Deskspace. The only difference I've noticed so far is that you cannot zoom out and tilt the cube to see its top or bottom. That's no big deal really.
I do seem to have a problem with the task bar disappearing but I'm not sure if I've got the configuration settings worked out yet.
I'll post again if I have anything to add:)

Warning.YODM 3D is very difficult to get rid of. I tried several methods of uninstalling it, Revo, Unlocker plus the usual and eventually had to do a system restore.
I'm back to Deskspace which appears in add/remove programs plus Revo uninstaller. I couldn't find the location of YODM 3D. Very odd. I'd avoid it:o

Here is another app I completely forgot about, which I actually like better.

CubeDesktop

Sorry I didn't think of it sooner. I have not used it in forever. It's not free, but it's better than the other I mentioned and cheaper.

This is the best of the lot I reckon. It seems smoother and more configurable than DeskSpace. For example you have six configurable faces and you can have a different wallpaper on each one.
I've just downloaded 6 lovely ones from Wallpaper Abyss and it rotates and flips intuitively. So far so good anyway:D

Hmmn. The plot thickens. I followed the link in Tepid;'s post and downloaded version 1.3.1 of CubeDesktop. This is a trial version and said it cost 9.95 Euros. Quite reasonable.
The trial is in minutes! I have now got 1346 minutes left! That's 22 hours+.
I had already spent a while configuring it and was impressed as I said above.
However I then went to the CubeDesktop website and learnt that I have an old version. The latest is version 1.4.0 and that costs 19.99 Euros. Not so reasonable.
The trial period for this version is only 2 hours!
I went onto their forum and get the impression the product has been abandoned. There are posts complaining about constant crashing and that no admin have responded since February.
Also, the forum seems to have some kind of infestation. There were a couple of posts that had links such as "rolex watches" and "wedding dress" inserted randomly in an otherwise sensible post. Needless to say I didn't click on them. Very bizarre.
Posts saying "where is the version 1.5 we were promised months ago?" and "why is no one responding?" lead me to the thought that this product has been abandoned.
If so that's a shame as it's the nearest thing to Compiz I've tried and a definitely closer to it than DeskSpace.
I hope I'm wrong about this but here's the website: ThinkInBytes - Innovative software for Windows Vista and 7 - CubeDesktop, DeskCollage, DeskMotive, DeskPose

It's worth visiting it and going onto the forum. It's very slick and shiny but seems to have been abandoned around September last year. Quite a melancholy feeling to it.

Hey ho:rolleyes:

CubeDesktop Pro 1.1.3 is still running fine on my pc. It should have expired by now but it seems to be just carrying on.
A lot of the complaints on the, seemingly abandoned, website were about crashes. I haven't had a single crash and the software is working great and just looks really cool.
I've got six lovely wallpapers and I can rotate or tumble the cube or have it as a carousel. Great eyecandy.
All the complaints date from 2008 so maybe people didn't have enough RAM for it "way back then".
Anyway, certainly worth looking at if you like that kind of thing:)

This is just what I've been looking for. Coming from Linux, this has been a sorely missed feature in Windows. DeskSpace does the trick for me. I can even configure it to switch spaces using my mouse's scroll wheel like I do in Linux. It is expensive though.

This machine was given to me when my dad bought a new computer. I keep throwing upgrades at it and it keeps on ticking. Think I've done everything to it that can be done outside a PSU upgrade so I can run an even BETTER GPU.
