Solved Software to rotate a picture ?

I have a photo that needs to be rotated an unusual amount in order to be viewed properly in a video.

The photo is of a (genealogy) Trellis Chart of 12 generations of a family. The program (PAF Companion) that produces the chat prints the chart at an angle such that if it is printed on over-size paper the printed chart can be viewed properly when it is wall-mounted horizontally. However, while on my computer (in .pdf format) I have been unable to rotate it to the proper angle. When I use PowerPoint I can rotate it to any angle but PowerPoint automatically reduced it in size so that the print on the chart is not readable when imported to Windows Movie Maker. The other programs I have each only rotate graphics a quarter of a turn with no other options.

How can rotate that picture to any desired angle?

Hi Carver....I click on Pictures in Start Menu and Windows Explorer takes me to Pictures Folder....where pictures can be rotated 360 degrees without changing sizes. I am puzzled by your inability to do the same.

Hi Pappi,

Thank you for responding. How do you rotate photo in the pictures folder? What do you do? The drop-down folder that appears after right-clicking on a picture only only gives a few choices. I need to rotate them manually. Have you tried rotating a pdf file?

Hi Jerry,

I do not have a pdf Viewer. I only have this pdf file because that is what the program produces.

Would a PDF Viewer allow me to rotate a picture something like 275 degrees?

Can you use PAF Companion to output a second PDF with the angle that you need? I understand the angle you have is to allow the image to be printed for wall mounting.

Failing that, I use GIMP. It's got plenty of tools, rotate is one of them .01 degrees or finer

Ummm, yeah I saw - PDF.

I've used a PAF app and the one I used printed or produced many types of output.

You have a wall chart in PDF format (I think). - that might be too large for a video

There are a couple of oprtions.
check your app and see if you can produce the same chart in an image out file (png, jpg, gif, tif)
barring that you could try grabbing a screen shot of the tree as viewed in the application window.

My family tree ran off the edges of the screen, so maybe a few screen shots to put in your video.

Great Grand parents -> grand parents
Grand parents -> parents
parents -> your generation
your generation -> children & grand children.

Give it some thought.

edit: this tutorial is really geared towards Sevenforums, but it is useful to know how to grab screen shots for anything. Don't worry about the posting parts, just the grab parts.

Forgot to mention you will have to save your pictures/objects in order to find them.
Then go to Accessories/Paint and find that file where the arrow is pointing...
rotate1.png

Then go to rotate( I did 90 degree's
rotate2.png

Then you have a rotating object.

Right click on your pic and save it as(the way it's named, or re-name it). It will appear on your pictures folder. From that folder, open the pic and just rotate it 90 degrees increment all the way to 360 degrees. Use the rotator arrows at the bottom of the picture folder window.

Carver as an option, have you tried to display the pdf on the screen and then using the snipping tool. capture the area you wish
and then save as a bmp or jpg where you can rotate it and save it as another name.

Hi Pappi,

Thanks for the screenshot. I tried to import the pdf file into Paint but it does not seem to accept pdf files.

Right click on the pdf file and save it as jpeg or bmp as has been suggested.
Then go to paint and see if it works.

Rich,

That is a very good suggestion. I can increase the size of a portion of the picture (chart), take a screen shot and import it into Paint.Net, crop it using the Rectangle tool and save it as a jpeg. I assume tat is the same as using the
snipping tool.

What I am dong on this forum was trying to learn whether there was a way to rotate the entire file at one time. It looks like I am not going to learn that, but I certainly appreciate your suggestion.

I received notice that there was a message posting asking if I have been able to rotate the file with PDF Viewer? I cannot find that post, but my answer is "No." I really do not work with pdf files. I only have this file because that is what he program produced. When "pdf viewer" was mentioned, I found that Adobe Reader has a pdf viewer component. When I attempted to open it, it immediately asked what tpe of membership did I want to buy. I gave up the idea because I would never use that feature in the future.
