Sony Vaio VPCEB3E1E Overheats

So hi everyone, my sister has a Sony Vaio VPCEB3E1E and the laptop over the years has sadly gone into overheat when it runs too long and even when it doesn't, well, it still gets pretty darn hot. Admiddtedly there is a cooler pad but it doesn't do much good as the darn thing still gets really hot.

I take it the thermal compound has gone bust, right?

Also worth noting, the fan is really loud and since as such I'd like to lower the power of it but I guess it isn't customisable.

Currently I'm using a fan to avoid it from overheating again because aside this issue it's a pretty decent computer and runs Windows 10 just fine.

First of all, if it's an old laptop, the fan and exhaust ports are probably clogged with dust. I would try blowing out the port with a can of compressed air. Just hold the fan blade with a pencil so that the fan doesn't spin while you do it, and blow the dust out. That should help quite a bit. If that doesn't do the trick, you could take it to a repair shop and have it professionally cleaned, and have new thermal paste applied at the same time. I don't suggest you do that yourself unless you've either done it before, or you are a masochist. Laptops are notoriously hard to take apart and put back together.

The probable reason that it's running loud is that the fan is spinning so fast trying to cool off the overheated CPU. Once you get it cleaned out and/or new thermal paste applied, it should drop down to a manageable sound level.

This reminds me A LOT of my fat PlayStation 3 60GB which would get hot really quickly but after an expert replaced with a high quality thermal paste it works perfectly. He even showed me the PS3's inside which is something I rather not do it myself because I'd have a hard time reassembly it.

I'm gonna do a quick clean on the fan of the laptop to see if it improves at all.
