Hi everyone... I need urgent help..

My volume icon keeps saying no speakers or headphones are plugged in, I can not get any sound from my laptop. When i click volume icon / sounds nothing is there in playback except Digital Audio HDMI which is
'' Not Pluged In ''

Things i have already done...

1.. Tried system restore, unfortunately my laptop had no store point.
2.. I cannot find any audio enabled option in bios setup .
3.. I download all these latest drivers but still no luck
https://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?modelId=4281
4.. I tried to do manually install the above mentioned audio driver through Device Manager / Action / Add legacy hardware but ( i only get '' realtek HD audio '' with yellow exclamation mark code 10 Error)
in device properties
5.. Windows update & troubleshooting also give me no luck
6.. I already done clean installation of Windows 7 x64 several times but failed
7.. dxdiag detect no sound card
8.. Now i only have High Definition Audio whereby it states that device is working properly. But my
sound card is not supporting it.

NOW PLZ HELP ME WHAT I AM MISSING OR MY SOUND CARD IS DEAD

Hi intel and welcome,

Please upload your msinfo32.nfo file so we can help further.

To get this: Start Menu>Type msinfo32 into the Search programs and files box.
When it opens, go to File, Save>Save as msinfo32.nfo and save in a place you will remember.
Let it finish the process of gathering and saving the system info>Right click the .nfo file.
click send to compressed (zipped) folder>Upload the .zip file here.

Cheers

Dave

Thanks for the respose. Here is the file I have attached the said file in RAR.

Please do help me as I have tried all i could ... Googled up everything went on forums etc but nothing seems to work not even a single thing really... No fix for me.

My laptop came with win7 home I upgraded it to ultimate and sound was ok until one fine morning without doing anyhting the sound wouldn't work. The last thing i tried was to connect my laptop to our office projector through HDMI but the projector did not have HDMI but a video input port so we got the HDMi-VIDEO cable after that nothing happened wrong and I used my laptop then the next day when I started it the sound was gone. I have been trying everything for the past week or so but nothing helps. i am really frustrated.

Reinstalled windows.. went back to home then again to ultimate x64 but no use.
Tried latest drivers but nothing on acer site I have the latest ones the worked fine before..
System restore..nothing.

In the device manager it says intel display audio if i uninstall it then it installs through windows and says high definition audio but wont take my realtek.. someone said new video adaptor disables onboard audio and I can change in CEMOS setup I think its called BIOS... but my bios doesnt have an option to enable/disable onboard sound etc just has the graphics one as my laptop has built in video plus nvidia 3d graphics card....

i would love to have this issue resolved.

Seems like HDMI sound or audio thing is blocking realtek from installing or something like that.

Another thing worth noting maybe.

the file I attached above was without installing my realtek drivers. The realtek wont install right. So the generic HD audio was installed by windows itself and i uploaded that file. However, I did another thing I went ot device manager and disabled high definition audio controller in system devices and then I could force my realtek driver to be installed. Then after doing that now my sound, game controller is showing realtek high definition audio all right but it has a yellow exclamation mark with error message device cannot start code 10. Similarly, when i did that and opened the msinfo32 I saw a change...

In the first file I attached with generic resources it said ok in everything but not in this attached new file named ok2 here I have done it after getting realtek drivers on as stated above. This time this file shows error in status in sound device under components... please see the file attached.

I think Dave you might be on to something and would be able to resolve this please...???

Hi Intel,

Thanks for the info.

Your problem lies here (as you already know):

Realtek High Definition Audio ROOT\MEDIA\0000 This device cannot start.

While i look through the msinfo32.nfo please update to:

Windows 7 Service Pack 1, you should be able to do this using Windows update. This will help stabilise your system and maybe the root of your issue.

Once done, uninstall all realtek drivers, reboot, and it will probably install windows generic drivers.

Re-install correct driver from Acer site.

See if that sorts your issue and post back status,

Cheers

Dave

Bassfisher: here are the screen snapshots you asked for...

I have taken the snapshot of my playback device window (shows only hdmi and that is with the red sign too cuz it isnt plugged in) however doesnt show speaker or microphone here). Also a snapshot of device manager with yellow exclamation on realtek and not on generic windows ones... and also once you take right click properties of the realtek sound drivers its mentioned device cannot start code 10.

What can you suggest...???

OK Dave i shall try to get on to windows 7 sp1. then I shall uninstall all drivers software for the sound device and then reinstall again... I shall fresh download the drivers for sound from acer support site and do that... Lets see what happens. In the meantime if you come up with something else, do let me know ...

I hope we can get this resolved.

If you have any problems with windows update try the stand alone Win 7 SP1

Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center

The one you want is: windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe 903.2Mb

Dear Dave, I did not have any problems with the windows update feature. It downloaded and installed sp1 with the same code you mentioned i.e. KB976932-X64 and restarted took its time and then upon restarting stated win7 sp1 is now installed... However, I doubt if it was 903 MB... anyway, I am now downloading fresh drivers from acer support site for the sound... Its the same driver set that I have but was thinking that maybe the one I had saved on hard drive earlier on might have got curropt.... Not that there are many chances of having that happen but then i am in Pakistan and curroption here is in abundance ;)

Once I download fresh drivers I will have them installed and see what they do. By the way, how to I uninstall previous ones so all their entries are removed completely and absolutely.... will uninstall them from device manager and then remove program in control panel... would that be enough ???

Dave; I am downloading the drivers from acer and have downloaded the drivesweeper and will do as required and instructed by you. Just one thing more though... should I uninstall sound only or all software/drivers provided by realtek? i think my card reader drivers/software is also from realtek?

All right Dave.

This is what I did. I removed drivers for sound rebooted in safe mode installed and ran drivesweeper and cleaned for realtek sound then restarted and installed realtek fresh drivers that I had downloaded.

Still no luck, they give the same response even on sp1 now: device cannot start code 10 :(

No luck and no idea at all what to do next and this problem is bugging me for the past two weeks... I am really getting frustrated... Hope you can find some other fix that may work for me ... counting on you.

Hi Intel,

Sorry have been away for a while ;)

According to Acer support, neither Windows 7 Ultimate 32 or 64bit have drivers available on the outdated link you are using:

https://support.acer.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?modelId=4281

However I found one that has been updated and has drivers for Ultimate 64bit :), I suspect you have been trying to install drivers for Win 7 Professional from that outdated link, please use the following link and choose Win 7 Ultimate 64bit from the drop down menu (right hand side), there is only one audio driver listed for your model Version 6.0.1.6612 Dated 06/11/2012, you could try that if you havent already:

Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook, Ultrabook / Aspire / Aspire M5-481TG

Also there are the drivers for Win 8 (as you have installed it) dont know if its the same site you have been using tho.

And if those drivers dont help any, then it may well be a hardware issue!

Hope this gets you sorted

Cheers

Dave

Hi zia111,

I think his english was fine...no need for a translator ;) and it is a requirement of the forums that English is used :)
As i said in my previous post if those drivers did not work then he may have to consider it a Hardware issue, but as the link he is using is outdated, he may not have the correct driver installed and we wont know that until he responds.

Here is what a Code 10 error is:

A Code 10 error is generated when Device Manager can't start the hardware device, a situation usually caused by outdated or corrupted drivers

It also can be hardware issue as you say.

Cheers

Dave

DAVE: Thanks for the update mate. i am right now trying to download the drviers from the site you gave for win8 and would check that out; hope it works. If not I might even give the win7 ultimate x64 a try again and download the drivers from the link you gave (although on that site Zia111 is right the drivers listed there under win7 ultimate have the same version no and even same size) is that possible that the same driver version no comes with different driver ? I will even give it a try just to make sure. if even this doesnt work then I shall have to look in to hardware issues, as you said.

Zia: Thanks for the information bro however I am not sure if the issue im having is drivers related or if it is a hardware issue. I will give Dave's idea a last chance and then off to the shop. My laptop is in warranty (local) but getting warranty claim from these vendors is pretty hard nut to crack. Lets see about that...

I will post the result of installing new drivers for win8 x64 from the link Dave suggested and then lets see...

Hi Intel,

I agree, but from my end your link doent show any drivers listed!! So most likely my link wont fix your issue either if same drivers are listed, but worth a try all the same.

It may well be a hardware issue, I would advise if its still under warranty to take it back and inform the vendor of your issue and let them take a look at it.

Cheers
