Sound from headphones and speakers simultaneously.

i have windows 7 pro 32bit and i cant disable the speakers without disabling the headphones i don't think there not being recognized, they are both in the same device (see attachment) help please i have the latest Realtek hd audio drivers

Hi tim413, if you right click the speaker icon on the right of the taskbar and select playback devices you will see the speakers and the headphones. you should be able to set the defaults there by clicking on the speakers or headphones and clicking set default.

thats a tricky one i havent seen that before, unfortunately im on the lappy now and have a different sound card ,so i cant get into the realtek audio settings .
can you go to control panel and select realtek hd audio manager and see if there is setting in there .
hopefully someone else can pitch in with some ideas. i will pm someone who may know a bit more about this,

What happens when you select "The default communication device" rather than "All devices currently playing sound"?

i dont have the realtek audio manager it never installed i got a sony vaio vgn-cs16m

ok can you open vaio control center and click sound and then go to advanced and see if there is anything in there.
im clutching at straws here as im not familiar with your notebook.

your sure you dont have it, could you do a search in the start menu search box.

i do have it but its version 1.1.02.01260 and it dosent have a sounds tab

can you go into system information in the vaio control center and give us the exact model number , in looking for vgn cs16m the closest i see is vgn cs16z .


edit: tim i think you need to click the refresh button on your browser then you will see any new posts, im afraid its time for me to turn in as its 2.45 am here and i have an early start.
make sure you have the correct model number and look for an update for the control center in the link provided earlier for vaio support.

vgn-cs16m is the correct model number you are looking at the sony europe site mine is from asia Support : Sony Asia Pacific

I don't have a RealTek audio system that I can compare to. But, it should automatically mute the speakers when a headset is plugged in (normal mode). Since it doesn't that tends to say that the driver is corrupt or there is a hardware problem with the RealTek sound chip.

Others have suggested getting the RealTek driver from Sony and reinstalling it (whether it's a later version or the same version). That would be my first suggestion too. In many cases if you use a non PC vendor driver for the sound (such as a HD Audio driver that Windows may install) there potentially can be problems. We see audio device problems quite a bit on the Dell forum if the Dell supplied driver including RealTek Audio is not used.

ive done some digging in the realtek program files and found 2 applications that have the file description realtek hd audio manager but they dont run, i tried restarting but no luck, any ideas?
