Solved Sound icon missing on taskbar

I have the same problem as in this post below, but a different situation.

I have changed nothing in the system since yesterday, but the sound icon is missing.

When I view the system icons in Notification Area, Sound and Power are both grayed out with the box being black.

So I wanted to move to the Group Policy editor, but I feel the same as the registry:
Know precisely what to do, letter by letter, before typing. I need a step-by-step guide for getting the image in the screenshot. Yes, I've already looked at their Help file.

Hiyya Rowin mate I am assuming you have done these

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Disk Check< if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 >in safe mode if need be

I also noticed in your siggy Classic Shell I know what it is an I am wondering if you are running software like that if it is not interfering with the power and sound features - just a thought.

Classic Shell doesn't affect the Taskbar, just Explorer and the Start Menu. And my icon returned today. Go figure...

I'm going to run Scannow anyway. Thanks.

Ok Rowin and just a by the by there is a general feeling that sfc is best run for three consecutive runs I do just that myself and have found on occasions that the first run did not pick up any issues that subsequent ones do but that choice is yours of course.
