Solved Sound level - Asus Strix gtx 970

Has anyone got / used a strix gtx 970 dc2oc? When the fans start moving, 40% speed or higher, the card is extremely loud. At 100% it sounds like a lawnmower. Is this to be expected in a high-end card, even when sources say it is quiet under load?

Initially there was a wire protruding between one of the fans, which made it even louder, but I have definitely moved any wires out of the way now.

I'm pretty sure my previous hd 7950 was much quieter and was almost pleasant to listen to; this however is awful to hear.

I am thinking of switching to the MSI 4G 970 model, or the Evga, in the hope one will be quieter. Is this a bad idea or sensible?

Yes, it`s been reported that they are loud.

I recommend you go with an EVGA, the ACX versions are very quiet.

I think I'll try to return, then wait for a new line up of NVidia cards.

Is this problem on new batches? My ASUS Strix is not loud at all.
