I have a HP G61 - 410SA with Windows 7 Home Premium.

One day the original Hard Drive that came with the Computer packed up and ended up not working (making weird ticking noises) and it was confirmed that I needed a new one. Now I got a hard drive with the same RPM and GB BUT wasn't the exact same as the one that came with it.

Now if that causes any problems then please say so? and what problems does it course?

I formatted the Hard Drive and Partitioned it as well also did all the 3 CD's made for Windows 7 System Recovery. Which are, System Recovery DVD (Windows / Recovery Media for Widows / Products) (Disc 1 of 2), and of cause the second Disc also and well finally Application and Driver Recovery CD.

Everything seemed fine, but the intial Start-Up takes longer than the original Hard Drive but saying that after the Start-Up the laptop runs smoothly and nicely (Normally). All my stuff like Anti-Virus stuff was all finally installed onto my computer still no problems until it occurred that no sound at all was playing but I hadn't really noticed then, so then I was did the Windows Updater and installed everything on that even the latest Sound Codec for it. Then I restarted my computer. I also installed the latest BIOS for it and that didn't work either.

Now I keep getting this stupid Preparing to Configure Windows every time on load up and there is NO SOUND either (but the Sound Meter is moving) plus the speakers are not done in either because it doesn't make weird noises or off sound (cause it doesn't make any sound anyways) and I have done everything possible.

I did all what HP said what to do which usually solves the problem and also looked at many forums many saying what HP said but still doesn't work and also did HP System Recovery to set it to factory settings and that still doesn't work at all. I honestly don't know what to do at all people its a very peculiar problem and don't have any clue in how to solve it. I'm pretty experienced in computers so I'm willing to listen to anything.

So what shall I do to solve this problem? Shall I do the whole Partitioning and Formatting again or does that have nothing to do with it?

Also checked if it was muted and it isn't and also saw if the device was in yellow and well it wasn't :/

UPDATE:
I have redone the Reocvery Discs and hasn't fixed my main problem at all.

But it has fixed the annoying 'Preparing to Configure Windows' thing popping up and the start up is roughly how it used to be. But still no sound at all did all the things again and still nothing. :S Have no clue what so ever. So I'm hoping you people can give me ideas on how to fix it. Thx. :)

click start button.
open the run command
type "services.msc" without the quotes
scroll down to windows audio and try to restart the service.
then check windows audio endpoint service just below that. see if that helps you

Just did that and it didn't solve my problem.

UPDATE: Now, because of what has happened I have gotten a little excited but yet it could be nothing.

In the bottem right hand corner there is an arrow, when I click this arrow there is an Task Icon of Control IDT Audio Settings. Right Click the icon and there is something called 'Open Music Mini Panel', when I click that and look at it, the panel is set to mute and the sound is set to 0. When I turn the thing all the way up and exit out it resets back to mute which I don't understand why. Could this be the source of the problem or could it be nothing? if it is how do I fix that problem? just tell me anyways on how to fix that cause I just want to see if the problem is fixed by doing that.

There is no Save Changes as what I can see. Just a square thing that takes it to the task bar and an exit button and thats it.

When you go to lower right corner and right click on the little speaker then to playback devices. You could have a choice of several. I have 6 to choose from. Right click on one and select test. If you can't hear the test choose another one to test. When you find one that works right click on it and select it as default.

No I only have two the Internal Speaker or the Independent Headphones and thats it.
But anyways I have an Update here.

UPDATE: Okay, the old Hard Drive was thrown away unfortunately but while my dad was doing a System Recovery, he cancelled it while it was going through its process then when he started it back up which of cause couldn't saying something like 'Can not Boot Up, Press Crtl, Alt and Del to restart' (can't remember what the exact words were). Now my dad started to press random keys and guess what happens sound comes out of the computer through the speakers making a beeping noise and multiple of them as well. So there is sound and everything but what I don't understand is when you actually go into the computer and that for proper sound there isn't any, why? :S
