Is it normal that my sound quality gets a lot worse after I start a videocall in MSN with my friends?

The sound gets lower (which is normal, if I'm right) but the quality also gets a lot worse. It gets somewhat muddy, the bass goes worse and so does the treble.

Is there some way to fix this? I find it quite disturbing... :/

Start with going here,

and uncheck both of those options. Do the same on the Recording tab as well.

Just noticed that the sound quality still gets worse and the volume somewhat drops during webcam in Windows Live.

I did that and I feel like it helped somewhat, but it still get's worse.
Is there something else to do?
