Hi. Yes - I have a USB memory stick that I use as Ready Boost. It might have had some old files on it? Might that be causing the problem - I'll try re-booting without it and then do the updates.

Tried that and have read the article - I think that must relate to other issues in the past. The SP1 update tries for about 30 minutes before stopping with the error message, IE9 quite quickly stops trying to install.

SP1 and IE9 failing to install

Hi.

Sorry - I should have completed the thread and posted what I did in the end!

Nothing worked. So I backed all my files up, did a full repair on Windows using the original disk, then did all the updates and it worked!!

I had no subsequent issues excpet I had to reinstall a couple of drivers - for example I have a HP 2500l printer and that needed reinstalling.

It all took a day of work, which is a pain. But SP1 and IE7 then installed and worked fine.

Good luck with it.
