Solved Speccy...how to read analysis ?

Hi...I`ve another post relating to the DDR type I have installed on my Acer D260 in "Hardware and Devices".

...and I am wondering if I am reading the analysis results page wrongly...for example...if one of the results shows the maximum specification of DDR type in the machine and another result shows the actual installation of DDR type...

does anybody know how to read the following Speccy analysis properly to tell which DDR type is installed in the machine please ?

The top result under RAM ...Memory...it reads DDR3 is installed

further down the page under the SPD ... slot 1 it reads DDR2 is installed

Anybody know how to read this page ?

This is a Netbook and you have DDR2 PC 6400 and you are most likely maxed out with 2GB. If you are looking for an upgrade you could install an SSD. That would make it fly. That is really the only option open to you except keeping Windows 7 optimized by reading the Seven Forum Tutorials.

Thanks indeed for your reply...yes the maximum RAM for this machine is 2gb.

Any ideas why the page under RAM...Memory...reads DDR3 ? ...is this reading the maximum specification of the machine and then the lower readings (ie,where it states DDR2) is the actual DDR type that is installed ?

Just want to know for future use etc...I take the point about the SSD but feel it would be wasted on this old machine I`m using...although it works relatively well for what I need it is a little old now...I do have another couple of machines but the kids use them for college and university work so I don`t mind using this thing for the moment.

Speccy is reading it incorrectly that is all. Laptop DDR2 is what fits in the machine. DDR3 will not fit physically. I have an Asus EPCee and I stuck a $60 Kingston 120Gb SSD in the machine (followed an online tutorial on how to get the machine apart) and what a difference. It was basically slow as molasses and afterwards it was very usable indeed.

Make sure you figure out how to get to the hard drive before you take the plunge, some are easy to get at, some are a nightmare........
