Hello everyone,

I'm once more tinkering around with my Windows 7 install on my laptop. There's been one thing that has bothered me ever since I installed it.

Basically, when I leave the desk, I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and then enter. It's become a kind of reflex and in XP it can be done without a problem. But when I try to do the same thing in Windows Seven, the screen goes blank for a second, I have to wait and then I can hit enter to lock the computer. This is rather annoying. And seeing as Win7 can be configured to do almost anything, I was wondering: Is there a way to disable that second of blank screen?

Thanks for your help!

I suspect the OS does something to prepare the Ctrl+Alt+Del screen and it takes some time. It's possible on a slow machine it can take longer. I suspect there is no way to speed this up (other than general tips to speed up the machine - stop unused services, don't use many programs at the same time, choose classic theme, add more RAM, etc)

As an alternative you can press Win+L to lock the machine. You will still get the brief black screen, however you don't have to press any more keys so you can leave as soon as you hit Win+L.
