Speeding up via the UEFI

Have just finished and installed on my new build.

Basically it is an i5 3570K @ 3.4GHz running 1866MHz RAM -8GB on an Asus P8Z77-V board with a Samsung 830 120GB SSD. I have done most of the optimise tweaks but I am just not familiar enough with the new BIOS to speed that post and splash screen up.

Plus I notice the machine keeps making a notifying noise - a low sounding du du du du dut is there something in that new system that I can shut off or is it another app?

Which Asus P8Z77-V? There are several of them, such as the Pro, Deluxe, Premium, etc.

What kind of cpu cooler are you using?

Maybe damping the fans if they touch the radiator, they're emitting an annoying very low sounding when they vibes.

Hiyya sorry late reply I am using the base Asus P8ZZ7-V board with an i5 3570K.

That noise is intermittent as the Intel liquid cooler RTS2011LC has a fan that is quite a distance form the radiator.
That dum dum noise comes I have now fund when I Google search which just hangs forever sometimes taking 2 mins to get something up in the way of search items - getting them to open is not worth the trouble.

Power up to login takes way too long and loading defaults it takes a about 35 secs but it seems a bit pointless having some decent RAM, CPU, SSD, what I thought would be a fairly quick board if I end up with what is now a very slow machine.

I might have to reinstall everything as this is really madness.

Mate I missed the two refs in the first pot of yours and the second was one I found in Youtube and posted this am on SF.

What I will do is go in and try again at the moment I have to set to default as I really am a beginner at UEFI you will need to bear with me.

Well Non I went through that whole spiel and my BIOS is slightly different in some ways I guess because that might be an older video.

I followed as best I could but the volts on the CPU did not change nor did the frequency of the CPU the RAM was stated in Monitor as 1333 but Speccy is telling me it is running at 961 which I guess is as near to 1866 as it could be.

I don't know my friend if I have a rogue board or what as surely it couldn't be this difficult?

Frankly I don't know what to do. I ma thinking I should have stayed with a Gigabyte board to be honest. But at $215 for this one I can't afford to do much about it now.

Exactly the same only a couple of extra dums.

I actually think I am going to have to reinstall 7 because I can't get any sense out of a Google search on that machine. Emails and stuff are coming through but anything to do with in here or other sites either download in 3 - 4 mins or not at all.

Plus the thing has reset itself except for the RAM speed and quite frankly I just ready for a ceremonial bonfire of the board. I should have gone Gigabyte and more than the basic board too, and I might just wait and do that cos this one isn't worth the grief.:sarc:

There's probably not anything wrong with the board, might just be a setting that's out of whack. Shoot me your e-mail address in private and I'll send you a guide that will show you what everything in the UEFI BIOS does.

You can try to re-plug every PCI slots cards and extentions, usb devices...

Newer Bios for the P8Z77-V might mess a little the settings because of Windows 8 support, check if you're on Windows UEFI Mode or Other Legacy. CSM (Compatibility Support Mode) is unactive or enable in the Bios? This have to be checked aswell for other legacy to boot properly.

Therefore you'll have to know if you had first install windows 7 by EFI DVD/CD Drive mode or Normal mode DVD/CD install.

If you set to Windows UEFI Mode after a normal DVD/CD install, it doesn't make any change at all, guess the CSM enable setting will help a little to set both uefi and legacy to boot together for some drivers only but windows stills boot on Normal mode (MBR).

Setting Windows UEFI Mode afterward a MBR Boot instead GPT doesn't arm the system as it stays disable, anyway.
Just Enable CSM and set legacy first or both, but still stay on legacy first.

Windows UEFI Mode is dangerous at that time because it can be possible copying entire disk without enter the OS if you don't set bios Admin password. It is made for deployement i guess.

Well my friends I think I am up for a reinstall as my Kaspersky and Google searches will not work and the nerves are getting a but frayed after two days of trying whatever.

Now the macjhine itself the RAM is hovering around 1900MHz but the CPU I just have to work out how to up the Frquency from 3.4 to say 3.8 and see what happens.

Now this morning just out of pure interest I booted Ubuntu and not only did this thing boot quicker but the Firefox searches through Google actually work as normal.

I actually answered a post in here on the machine and so am wondering if the CD has had the Richard. So I might just do that with a My Digital River ISO and activate it with the code on the OEM box.

So there may be light at the end of the tunnel.

Non I don't have any cards in yet mate because of all the problems. The thing tested up before I even got everything i the case without an OS and that is the first time I have ever seen the UEFI - so it looks to me to be a standard feature.

No it is just me I think I am not that bright with this stuff and I suppose I will eventually get there thanks to you folks

Just as matter of curiosity would you recommend me setting a password in there a I noticed in your last comment that it (UEFI) could interfere with the OS install?

Password can be set after the install.

I wouldn't yet boot on UEFI DVD/CD to install windows 7.
It is my opinion only.

If you do reinstall perhaps take the time to update to the latest bios before and after prepare the Bios for a new install.


Maybe ask around if it is worth boot .efi config in windows

Humm...I think after the new asus Bios updated it is automatically reset to default anyway, therefore you will have to boot onto Bios first and set it back to AHCI or RAID (depend how you set yours) in order to enter your session.

So as for updating i do not think it does matter to be on default to upgrade the Bios.

You could also set DVD/CD rom option first at boot.

Maybe take care if you do not want to boot on Uefi config (gpt) to set settings to other legacy (mbr).

Yes Non I just watched a video on that and that is just what the person did - went to default settings. The ACHI I am ok with my only query now mate is which of the BIOS updates to pick as there are about 8 on the list - I can't remember what version is on now.

So my simple mind is telling me go with the latest.

Am currently downloading that 7 ISO onto a stick in case the CD is corrupted and I am not real sure what you mean in your last post on booting on UEFI config and setting the settings to other than legacy?? Sorry my friend you have lost this old head there a bit.

I am also going to wipe that drive and align it again before I do anything - just to make sure as i don't want this all over again.

well better heading to the latest Bios. Asus doesn't make it more difficult, just are improvements & compatibilities.

If it happens you boot with DVD/CD rom to install, you'll have the option to boot normal (legacy) or to boot on UEFI mode with the Dvd/Cd rom ( It will appear in Bios 2 DVD/CD Drives, one will be tagged UEFI). Choose the legacy.

Might be the same with usb sticks, though did not tried yet!

Hum this board is fast becoming a nightmare and I think I have a lemon to be quite frank. The thing will not update the BIOS and continually keeps reverting back to 1333MHz.

The problem with the Windows set up is also a shambles as I cannot do anything in the net without having to wait forever for the darn thing to work.

As a last ditch thing before I get another brand board I am wiping this drive and reinstalling 7 from a USB stick.

What should have been a build that was pleasurable to do and last for some time is / was a bad mistake my old Sandy Bridge knocks spots off this setup and that BIOS well that is a real piece of goods

What motherboard did you say you had, the Asus P8Z77-V? Also, what BIOS did you try to update to and which method did you use to update it?
