Hi there,

I currently have a powerline extender/adapter in my lounge which supports two ethernet cables (one into my Sky box and the other into my TV), it's been working fine but now I have an additional device (my pc) which I want to run from this adapter.

I've been told an ethernet switch is the way to go, I've also been told that a splitter is an option. I've read some negative comments on the latter and wanted to gain some informed opinion. As I understand it I could buy a switch and connect this from one of the ports in the adapter, then run the three ethernets from this. Would this work ok?

cheers

I did bought and tested device. (For my next new flat)
It is call "8-port Gigabit Easy Desktop Switch" from D-Link for S$50 (Singapore dollar).
There are also option for 5-port.
The device required power supply.

There are 8 ports to insert the LAN cable.
One or more ports of the 8 port is for input from the router /modem.
It is auto detect if the LAN cable is from router /modem.
The rest is connected to the computer, just like router ports.

There are no software and it is plug n play.
The speed depend on the computers that are connected.
It auto sense if which computer require faster speed, it would adjust to provide.

Tested by connecting LAN HDD, computers, etc.
Note: This is using LAN cable.
