I looked through the list of software for Win 7, and couldn't find what I need. I have a file, 804 Meg, and I want to split it so I can burn it on 2 CDs. Does anyone know how to accomplish that. I Googled it, there were a few ways, that seemed to very confusing or expensive like the DVDfab route.

Thanks for any help

What kind of file is it?

If it's a CD image in bin/cue or a similar format, you can burn it to a single 700MB CD-R. (This is because such discs can really store about 100MB more data which is the error-correction data added to each sector. The 700MB refers to the user data.)

I use HJSplit to split files. Freeware.

Of course you need it also to join the files again.

If it is a video file, you should not have to spend a dime to split it or change it to another format. There is a large pile of free applications out there.

sorry,

the file in question is a patch file, .exe file. I read reviews about HJSplit and most people said it was worthless.

thanks,

I could do that, but I'd rather not waste the disc.

Thanks :)

You could try CDBurnerXP (don't let then name confuse you, it also works in win7) it has a Disc spanning option (and its free)
But DeaconFrost has a point. A blank DVD is about the same price as a blank CD nowadays (and you'll be using two CD's) and if the data is important to you then it's worth putting it onto DVD and would save you all the hassle ;)

CDBurnerXP: Disc spanning

That is true, however, I'm out of DVD media to my surprise. I was considering what DeaconFrost suggested is when I noticed that. That being said, I will give your idea a try.

Thank you all :)
