Spray Painting Case Fan HELP!

Hi everyone i have some PC Case Fans and i want to paint them with Fluorescent spray paint but the problem is that i can't find Primer Spray for base coat in order to paint the Fluorescent over them in my lazy country anywhere and i got 2 colors of paint which are Pearl Gold and Orange... now can anyone help me out what should i do? all the fans are black and should i directly paint the blades with colors or is it really necessary to paint white before coloring? and yes i did the basic steps successfully removing the blades out as well as wipe of the dust etc. with cleaning solutions.

I would use a Primer if You can as Black is hard to cover.
Have you tried shops that sell model Aircraft and car kits?
Don't forget to give the fan a light sand before and after the base coats, otherwise the paint won't stick to the fan blades.

No i have'nt tried model aircrafts shop yet how to give sand to the fan before and after? as in paint and then use sand paper?

The plastic surface of the fan is smooth and paint may not stick to it.
Get some fine sandpaper and rough up the surface.
Apply a first coat and as that coat will be smooth you need to give it a LIGHT sand so the final coat will stick to it

oh thanks a lot for the tip kodi i will definitely do it on next fan which is black. I'm painting on a transparent fan which is drying up right now. I haven't used any thing on it yet coz i did'nt know about it before but hopefully it will be ok. I just applied the 2nd coat after 3rd and final i will upload the pic here.

Can somebody tell me how to get this baby out from the center of the frame? :huh: i cant seem to get it out by little force and could'nt find any guide on google as well.... i want to wash and clean the dusty frame.

Hi boogieboy

You may find the motor is not meant to be removed after the fan has being assembled, also spraying fan blades I would consult someone like a Airbrush Artist as I would think the sprayed paint would need to be uniform as to not unbalance the fan.

You might find that replacing the fan with a factory painted / illuminated version is actually cheaper than buying the paint and primer, and save you allot of worry, time and cash .... but I agree taking it apart isn't such a cool idea

Actually i did the paint job already with Pearl Gold Acrylic i agree they might cost less but problem is in my country there is'nt much variety of fans available and only few brands are locally available at shops like Cooler Master or Antec etc. and if i want to order from other country online it will cost me twice the price of the actual product. I painted thin coats and it's dryed now but i havent take off the tool yet coz of dirty frame but idk its looking better in real than the pics

As for primer check your local car repair shop

Bumpers and Spoilers need to be primed too before they can be spray painted
They might even give you an almost empty can for free (it's not like you need a ton)

i tried them but they use primer powder and mix it with some chemicle or water maybe idk to make it liquid form and than put it in a big motor machine and spray primer on cars with a spray gun inside Air-Tight Car Oven so that's a no go for a little fan. For primer spray i think i need to be in other country than my own country

Those fans look pretty cool. My only concern would be their weight being off and not spinning properly. Plus, they are going to be thicker and heavier now...so they might not move as much air or spin as fast.

you could be right about the weight but it was a transparent fan and i compared it with a couple of other fans which are stock black which weight little heavy than this one + plus i applied very thin coats of paint which you can notice a little globe logo embossed on the fan center in the pic otherwise heavy coats of paint can mess up tiny logos easily i can tell coz i tried once before but lets hope for the best for its full spinning which is about 1200rpm i think i searched for tutorials on google and found that many people applied about 3 coats and they came up with positive results even using primer before and than paint. I will let you guys know if it will be successful or not in both cases :shock:

I've painted out ceiling fan blades before with a brush and wall paint. It worked and the weight didn't effect the slow turning fan even at it's fastest speed but a fan spinning anywhere near 2000 rpm will go one of two ways, work or slowly burn the bearing bad. Good luck and you may get lucky. Are you going to to do the same for the CPU cooler fan ??? I'm thinking that would be a bad move for temps could climb quickly if you aren't on top of the heat if the fan or fans stop.

No no im not going for CPU cooler for now i'm just experimenting on these fans which i got from market at dirt cheap price i'm practicing for now and my next target is to cut the side panel of my current PC case and install Acrylic Glass and than install a couple of UV lights which i ordered whenever i will have more free time

So here are the pics of my modded fan which is completed I managed to wash the each side of frame slowly one by one with water by covering the motor and LED's with scotch tape

After fitting back the LED's to there slots ... see the sparkle LOL​

After finishing everything i took 3rd pic on high capturing while it was spinning at full speed... oh where are the grill screws? LOL​

I would say you did an excellent job. And the fact that they can spin full speed with no sign of vibration is a good sign. Now if you could only find those grill screws ! Tip: plastic baggie !
