SSD 10X faster than SATA?

Have u use SSD?

I went to computer store, and
i was told that;
SSD is 10 X faster on reading
and
4 X slower on savings and writing
than
SATA hard drive.

I have an SSD drive. It's sequential read time is about 200MB/sec...which is about 2x faster than a mechanical hard drive. My drive writes about 70MB/sec...which is nearly as fast as a mechanical hard drive.

I'd find another place to shop. SSD drives are SATA drives, so their explanation is flawed from the beginning.

Yes go elsewhere. My SSD does 400 MB/s on sequential read and 175 MB/s on sequential write. My fastest hard drive averages 90 MB/s read and 80 MB/s write.

What is more important is the random reads and writes for smaller files. An SSD blows away hard disks in both.

Though some low end SSD don't do sequential writes any faster than a hard drive, most do. So your source is basically full of crap.

Right - the reads and writes are faster, but not enough to blow a mechanical disk out of the water. However, the real improvement (and where you really notice the performance increase) is seek times that go down from milliseconds (mechanical drives) to microseconds (SSDs), which effectively moves the system bottleneck back to the CPU where it belongs. The *real-world* time lost in hard disk technology isn't necessarily the speed to or from the platters, it's the time *getting to* the files themselves to be read or written. This is where an SSD makes it's mark.

Any shop that talks that way probably has at least a few employees that have no clue what they're talking about, but have no problem spouting off when asked anyway. I'm not sure I'd recommend going somewhere else to purchase per se like the others here, but I most certainly would not recommend asking anyone there for actual advice .
