SSD raid problem.

Hi, i got my two SSD`s raid and i got a problem when it`s connected to the sata 600 6gb port. They wont raid in the 6 gb, only in the 3 gb. Any help ? Need help fast.
SSD:Crucial M4 128GB and OCZ Vertex 4 128 GB

The 6GB probably uses the Marvell Raid controller - have you installed the driver? Refer to your motherboard manual for confirmation.

I'm not a supporter of RAID on a desktop at all, especially when the drives don't match. You are only asking for instability issues. It may not be what you are looking for, but my advice is to not even try.

^ This. May I ask why you are wanting to set up a RAID 0 array with SSD's?

I agree with the above. The only thing raided SSDs will do is give you more space and better benchmark scores. As far as the OS, there is no advantage. The OS works from 4kb read speeds and response time. Raid does not increase those at all. Take it from someone who has done it before. I broke the raid and use seperate drives now. If the 6GB/s ports use the same controller, it should raid, but will not span controllers. If you have 2 Intel 6GB/s ports and install Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST), you will have no problem. But again, raid is of little to no value to SSds used for an OS.

For RAID to work effectively, all drives in the array should be identical (manufacturer, size, firmware revision, controller). In your case, only the size is a common factor. That is not to say that mismatched drives won't work, quite often they will but at the cost of actual vs theoretical performance. In other words, if one drive is slower at processing information than other(s) on the array (perhaps due to different firmware or cache size), then the rest of the devices on the array will have to slow down accordingly. Sometimes, this can be significant.

You don't need a RAID 0 setup with SSD's unless you are trying to stripe two smaller drives to make a larger drive.....which you aren't. SSD's are plenty fast enough, and a RAID 0 array won't make the part that matters any faster.
