Hi there,
I have recently tried to update the generic "standard vga grpahics adapter". I tried to update it because my screen resolution had gone all small and weird after a factory reset but for some reason it has not worked. Before i had the generic display adapter I'm not sure what i had. But my laptop specs seems to tell me that it was AMD Raedon HD 6470M. I have also tried to install that but when i got to install it, it doesnt install the display driver only everything else in the package that was downloaded. Here is some information about my laptop:

Hi Everloned,

The Standard VGA graphics driver is just a basic windows driver that your system uses if it is unable to locate the correct driver for your graphics card. Usually one would simply install the manufacturer's drivers for your graphics card.

What version of Windows 7 are you running, 64bit or 84bit? If so, try downloading this: AMD Catalyst

Your best bet is to go to your Laptop manufacturers support page and download the driver from there. Some laptop manufacturers modify the ID string of the onboard video card to a custom ID. When they do that only their custom driver will detect the card and install. The other thing that can happen is downloading the wrong driver from the Nvidia site. You need the "xxxM series" for notebooks/laptops.

OP has stated that his card is seen by the System as an AMD 6470.

OP, Please go here:

AMD Graphics Drivers & Software

and type in the card details, with your operating system (eg Windows 7, whether 64 bit or 32 bit.)

You may also be able to Automatically Install - let AMD Support find your card, by clicking your O/S and downloading the Catalyst driver from the same page.

Have you enabled Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then run all Important and Optional Windows Updates? This is how Win7 delivers the driver it wants, as the first driver-complete OS. All Updates should always be automatically installed for performance and security reasons as well.

If the placeholder VGA driver isn't replaced then import it from the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC or display adapter, as suggested.
