Starcraft System Crash

So what do you expect it is then, when everything works fine in my hardware with windows xp, windows vista and ONLY in 7 I get crashes? bad karma? ...

by your logic every bluescreen cannot be related to windows, since they happened in xp, vista and seven ...
True...I guess all of us must be having bad karma after switching to 7. What are the chances?

Squall, the crashes are VERY unique and they are the EXACT same. Maybe YOU'RE the one having different crashes?

The game will suddenly freeze, the screen gets all blurry/glitchy (you can still see a disc countdown timer, however, counting down in a glitchy way). Some input from the keyboard/mouse might cause a little bit of flickering in the glitchiness, but nothing too severe. Alt + F4 will not work, no keyboard shortcuts will work. The only solution is to do a rough shut down, period.

You're telling me that there are people having these crashes on Windows 7 as a result of the W7 software, and there are people having these EXACT, SAME, - UNIQUE - crashes on XP for NO related reason???

Sorry dude, but people have been having these problems, these exact crashes, way before you even registered an account here. Like I said, check out teamliquid or gosugamers if you actually want to talk to a large group of real Starcraft players. You and 2 other friends who are all beta testing W7 is probably not a good control group for your great theories.

They ARE NOT the same.

The people here have gone from XP/Vista to windows 7 on the same hardware and are only getting the freeze on 7.

The game will suddenly freeze, the screen gets all blurry/glitchy
The screen does not glitch or blur. it just stops updating

Yep, Your issue is definitely different to the one this thread is based on.

The freeze we are getting just has the screen stop updating and controls not working. The games core also freezes but music continues, since no more battle noises occur after the display freeze.

Steve, you are stubborn. I don't know where you take your "general knowledge", but if you indeed read the TeamLiquid Thread (the largest one) concerning that topic, exactly what happens to Squall (and me) is described!

The major problematic is the simple freeze with music still playing!

Squall, we're talking about different crashes, then. See these screenshots:

Yep those screenshots look nothing like mine. Mine is as the others describe - freeze of screen and controls but with music continuing in background. Only happened after upgrading to Win7. Never happened under XP or Vista.

I therefore blame Win7 (or some derivative thereof).

I am now 99% sure that Winamp has been causing SC to crash when both are running.

I have played for 3 weeks w/o Winamp with no crashes.

I used to get crashes that occured at the most random times. The game and computer would just freeze but the in Winamp will continue playing.

I hope this info helps somebody

I have identical crashes! I thought my gfx card was malfunctioning, so I sold it and got a new one and I still have crashes (9800GTX to 9800GTX+). I've tried to play SC on Windows XP sp3 32bit and Windows 7 32bit -- crashes in both systems. Never tried on a x64 though. The crashes occur randomly, sometimes after 10min and other times after 1 hr. I've applied the color fix, updated my drivers, none worked for me.

If anyone has any insights into this i'd greatly appreciate it!!!! thanks

Starcraft has NEVER EVER crashed on a windows XP system, even with a multicore setup.

Those corrupt graphics crashes are either gfx or a bugged mainboard.

Just wanted to reply to say that I cannot recall my starcraft crashing while not using winamp, I can recall my starcraft crashes often while winamp is playing! Vista 64..

I will play starcraft without winamp on and reply if it crashes.. But winamp and starcraft on vista 64 = crashes.

its cause by explorer theres link on how to clsoe it and restart it when exiting entering scbw a few friends of mine tested it and work prefect.

Windows 7 - StarCraft Brood Wars Fix

I looked at this.

Please note: That this has no error checking, and will close all your Windows Explorer sessions as well as the shell. The user needs to be aware of this so you do not cancel copying or moving files or if something important is being done with “explorer.exe”.

If users report that this works I can create a Command Script that does this with some error checking and a warning etc.

Everyone here is trying to help each other get this wonderful game to work in Windows 7. But you keep slamming people or making posts that are not helpful or just plain rude. Again this is a friendly forum and everyone here is trying to help. Take a moment and explain why this crash has nothing to do with explorer.exe or how you know it doesn't or why some people think it does.

1. because it occurs even without explorer
2. because people have already posted on multiple forums, multiple times (including this one) that it doesn't work.

I atleast read the thread before jumping in with idea's, something most of these 1 post wannabe wonders failed to do so.
