Start>Computer>Windows Explorer Unresponsive with Green Loading Bar

When I go to the start button and then click on "Computer" in Windows 7 and Windows Explorer opens the drives won't appear and that green loading bar just slowly moves across the address bar. The green loading bar eventually fills the address bar and just sits there and pulses but Windows Explorer is unresponsive. If I restart my machine that usually fixes the problem, but not always as sometimes I need to restart twice or more.

Folders under "Computer" (in the column on the left) will open such as "Program Files" etc. but Local Disk (C) and the DVD RW Drive (E) for example (in other words Windows Explorer) won't load up and display the icons for the drives.

My machine is Win7 Pro 64 bit, Intel Core i7 with 8GB of RAM and lots of hard drive space left.

How do I fix this?

Before I do that I need to know what "Theming explorer/system files" is. I'm heeding the warning at the scannow website. By Theming does it mean the visual display (personalize feature) will be changed back to the default? or all my other personal settings changed back to the default - or both?

If I need to back these up before I do the scan where do I find the files and folders. Which system files do I need to be concerned about?

If you do not know what theming is, your not doing it. Its custom theming, unofficial mods.

Disk Check

I apologize, I forgot to do that.

I'll do it now and get back to you. I do run disk check about once a month after I defragment, but I never knew how to read the scan log from the Event Viewer so I was just hoping and assuming file integrity corruption, if any, had been repaired.

No problem. What were looking for is bad sectors. If there is to many, windows will not be able to compensate.

Your awesome for reading this.
Well, at this time I'm not having the problem so I have nothing to compare against using the troubleshooting technique in the link you provided. As I mentioned above in my first post usually a restart fixes the problem and I did restart my computer a couple days ago just before opening this topic on SF which has, at least temporarily, solved the problem to date. The next time this happens I'll try the troubleshooting technique you suggest.

Also, before the restart mentioned above I did eliminate a few programs that wanted to run at start-up so it's possible one of these was the culprit. Time may tell, if I don't have this problem recur I will know it's one of two programs I eliminated from running at start-up.

Thanks very much for your help, I learned something. I'll leave it up to you to close this topic and mark it as solved or not.

Hi XCR,

Normal course of events seeing that you've allready run sfc/chkdsk is a System Repair

BUT NOT in your case,

WHY, ive been lookin at your other posts.

You seem to have uniquely customised your comp,
Its possible that your own actions have created the situation.
(this also applies to your other current posts)

System repair would overwrite YOUR changes

The choice is yours :)
