Start Menu / All Programs flyout

Hi there, I know there have been tons and tons of discussions regarding getting classic start menu back in W7. I personally don't mind the new start menu, especially the 'search programs and files' feature - it rocks! The ONLY thing that really really peeves me about it is the scrolling All Programs menu. I wish I had the option to have the classic flyout menu in order to be able to see everything at once. Does anybody know if this is still possible? I have no problem working in the registry and would prefer that than having to install 3rd party software but I would if I had to. Please be clear. I DON'T want the classic start menu back - I just want a flyout All Programs menu. It seems mad to me that menu items like Documents, Recent Items and Control Panel can still be set to 'Display as a menu' but All Programs can't be. Typical MS!!! No logic whatsoever.

I think people are misunderstanding your request.

I remember doing it a while ago - I think I replaced Recorded tv on the right side with something else I wanted as a fyout.

Damned if I can remember how atm.

Yes, I think you can replace one of the unused slots with a link to the Start Menu folder. I've seen it described a few times on this forum. The problem is that it will show you only one folder, and not the combined contents of the per-user and the all-users start menu folders.

Classic Shell solves the problem correctly (and is skinnable). See the third screenshot here: Classic Shell: Gallery

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks SIW2 that's almost what I mean and a very good idea but it still doesn't flyout the whole menu. It still scrolls. I think this was the classic menu default behaviour but there was also the option to have the whole menu flyout. But a very handy tip for replacing the link folders! Thanks for that!!! I think I will just force myself to get used to it - like all the other MS annoyances!

They were columned across the screen. I never had so many that I know what happened if you ran out of columns but that's how they were. I just went and had a look on my other computer with XP to confirm.

EDIT: I had another look and it's not an option - it's the default behaviour for XP "Start" Menu. If you change the properties to "Classic" Menu it loses this behaviour and becomes a scrolling menu.
