I've just been for a look, and it certainly doesn't look or sound too bad.

I don't have too much of an issue with the Win 7 start menu, but do miss it in Windows 8. Currently I'm using Ivo's very good Classic Shell, but I will be giving this one a try.

Thanks for posting.

Wenda.

A top little machine that hasn't let me down once since the day I removed it from its packaging over four years ago. It's done everything I could want, and more, all without a single issue. 10/10, Acer!!
Thanks for the feedback, Wenda.

With Windows 7, SMR offers you a refreshing, new Start Menu with elements of the Metro interface. One that can be customized and personalized to great extent, while offering you full start menu functionality. You get the best of both worlds.

Unlike Classic Shell, we aren't trying to simulate the W7 start menu or break it down further, but enhance the overall experience with a modern touch. Speaking of which it is also completely touch-optimized for Windows.

Feel free to give Start Menu Reviver a try on Windows 8 and let us know what you think.

We're working very hard to improve the functionality and performance of Start Menu Reviver, so every bit of feedback counts.

Cheers,

ReviverSoft

@ reviversoft

i've had this installed for about 3 days now (windows 7). very light weight. the download is 5.37mb. glad to say i haven't experienced any problems on the system yet. first i thought having stardock http://www.sevenforums.com/software/215829-free-great-programs-windows-7-2-a.html installed on the system, there would have been conflict issues between the two, but that hasn't happened.

it looks a bit intimidating at first glance but 2-3 minuets with it and you realise how simple it is to use. i like the fact that it allows customizing the interface to suit you.

one refreshing aspect of "start menu revival" is it's ability to creat shortcuts to system tools. i already had shortcuts to tools that i use frequently on my dsktop created from these tutorials http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/?filter[2]=Shortcuts. surprisingly, these shortcuts are created automatically by "start menu revival" which i think is a plus.

the down side is, if you are accustom to using the standard windows 7 start menu, you might find it just a little irritating locating items at first. i was looking for "windows update" so on the extended menu panel, i selected "programs" which is where you would normally find it with the rest of installed programs, using windows 7 start menu, but it wasn't there. i eventually found it under settings in the "charm panel" to the left of the interface. no big deal but...

now, changing start button style, the instruction is to: Right-click or hold your finger on the Start button and select Settings. In the Settings window of Start Menu Reviver, locate Start Menu Button Style, select the style you wish to use from the drop-down box, and click or tap Save". the problem is, when you right click on the start button and select settings, what you see is: a)start menu size, b)language, c)expanded menu. d)expanded menu shows. no "start menu button style"....now i'm wondering if i need to download this thing again?

one last thing, when i right click on a tile and select to edit the tile, i'm not able to change the tile background colour. after selecting a colour, clicking ok and save, nothing happens.

suggestions:

1) selecting programs from the drop-down menu should show all the programs just the way we are accustomed to seing them under windows 7 start menu "all programs"

2) the charm column panel should be expandable just like the expandable menu panel to the right

3) should be able to decide which 7 items shows up on the charm menu panel

4) should be able to adjust the font size for the items showing up on the charm panel....a little too big as is

5) what's with the size of the boader? half the size it is now will be just perfect

all in all, it's a very convenient app, beautifully done, i like it. give it a try. i haven't really spent much time with it so if anything i've suggested already exists, then pls forgive. thanks for posting at the forum. no way would i have found out about this.

edit: there is a new version....Start Menu Reviver version 1.0.0.1812....that claims to have fixed some of these issues. haven't tried it yet
