Solved Start menu with All Programs first and Recent programs second

Every time (19 out of 20) I have to push Start\All Programs\ program...

Can All Programs appear first and Recent Programs second?
Can Recent programs menu be deleted to put All Programs first?

eg Start\Program...

I have searched everywhere for a solution.

Can anyone help with this please.

Not that I know of, but I know that there are ways to make it easier to start the program. My favorite way is by pinning it to the Taskbar or even to the Start Menu. The first 10 items on the Taskbar starting from the left are accessible by pressing Windows Key + 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. all the way up to 0. Pressing Windows Key + 0 accesses the 10th item. The rest can be given Shortcut Keys.

Another is by simply opening the Start Menu, typing the name of the program (or even just the first few letters), and then pressing Enter - or using the arrow keys to select it first if necessary.

Another way is to make it so that as soon as your mouse cursor touches All Programs, it's the same as clicking it. I'm talking about a 0ms menu delay for the mouse which is done in the Registry.

I was aware of adding short cuts to the Start Menu and Start Bar and do this.

I wasn't aware of the Win Key +1.. that works great thanks.

I like the hover All Programs delay zero also. I have done a quick google and can't find a simple solution for this.
Can you suggest one or a link.

Absolutely!

1. In the Registry Editor, navigate to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel]
2. In here, click the "Desktop" key (in the left-hand pane)
3. In the right-hand pane, look for "MenuShowDelay"
4. Double-click it and change the value. This is in milliseconds. I have mine set to 1 because I wanted 0ms but '0' is binary for Off while 1 is still just 1 millisecond here.
5. Click OK when you've decided on a value
6. Now click the Mouse key in the left-hand pane
7. In the right-hand pane, look for "MouseHoverTime"
8. Double-click it and again, this is a value in milliseconds. I have mine set to 1 just like above. I like everything to be instantaneous!
9. Click OK when you've decided on a value
10. Log out of Windows and log back in for the changes to take effect
11. Test it to see if you like it. If not, then go back in the Registry and change these values again. Keep experimenting until you feel that it's perfect.

Now you will notice that the HoverTime for Taskbar Previews is still slow. This is changed independently and I can show you how to make it faster if you'd like.

You're very welcome!

The Taskbar Preview Hover Delay was one of my favorites to find out about!

1. Navigate to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
2. Right-click in the right-hand pane and choose New > "DWORD (32-bit) Value"
3. Name it ExtendedUIHoverTime
4. Double-click it
5. The value is in milliseconds again, so I like to use 1 for 1 millisecond!
6. Click OK
7. Log out and back in just like before and test it out!

Now here's something else to make this change even more useful: you can middle-click Taskbar previews to close the window or program. So when I want to close something, I just quickly "tap" the Taskbar button with my mouse cursor so that as soon as I touch it, it's right inside of the Preview window (my cursor looks like it's bouncing up off of the Taskbar button). Immediately after "tapping", I middle-click and it's closed. So it's sometimes much faster for me than Alt+F4 or clicking the red X on the top-right of a window!

I think these are all of the "speed" tweaks I have.

I wasn't quite sure what you were referring re the Task Bar preview speed because it was virtually instantaneous as it was. But I went ahead and did it anyhow in case it would show up something I was missing.

It didn't change the delay because it was originally fast and I haven't noticed anything else different.

Am I missing something here or is it just odd that it was originally fast?

If the original Task Bar Preview delay was a slow 400mS your suggestion would have been a major boost, so thanks anyhow.

Yeah, it was an awesome day when I figured that middle-click trick out. I was like, "OMG! All this time!" lol So that caused me to discover something else: middle-click tabs in a web browser to close them. I use Firefox and this is the only way I close tabs now, and so I performed the about:config tweak to get rid of the close buttons on the tabs. hehe

Anyway, I agree that it's odd that the Taskbar Preview popup hover delay thing was already instant for you, and you're right the default is supposed to be 400ms, but I have clue why it would have already been like 1ms. Oh well. I'm glad you've been enjoying it this entire time because now these other tweaks kind of complete the picture. Or so I would think!

You're welcome! Thank you for the faster ways to shut down and restart!

Another fast way to shut down or restart is by pressing Windows Key, arrow keys for navigation to select Shut Down or Restart, then press Enter. The "power button action" setting I have in the Start Menu is Restart. So for Restarting, I just press Windows Key, Right Arrow, Enter. The nice thing about this is if I want to shut down, then I only have to press Right Arrow twice because "Shut Down" is already selected when I press Right Arrow the second time in order to open the little menu.

So, it depends on your Start Menu option for "Power button action".
