Since doing a system reset, I have been getting problems when booting. Whenever I boot the windows startup animation stops until I press enter. Then it spots again for a couple minutes until I press enter. I tried clean boot and safe mode which did not help. Did a system scan and got nothing. Please help:(

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

I didn't have anything critical under application but I have critical under system which is a kernel-power. The event ID is 41 and I "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

As stated you'll need to find one to unlock all versions (if necessary) to reinstall with your Product Key on COA sticker.

You can download one but be careful to check the comments that nothing has been added, then rightclick scan the ISO wtih AV before unlocking and/or burning to DVD. The steps to do this and get a perfect install are in the link in my last post.

Hello kenboo, welcome to Seven Forums!

Here's some information on how to do a clean install using the Windows 7 activation key on the sticker attached to the PC and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media; if you can find an exact Windows version that the PC shipped with you can do a clean install using the activation key on the COA sticker attached to the PC though it may require a robo-call to MS to sort the OEM batch-key.

If you can't find an exact same version, you could use the info in this tutorial to create an "all versions" installer of any version Windows installer, to install using the same method I posted above.

After you have made backups of everything you care to save, the best method is to do a complete wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive first, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old drivers/programs, giving you the best possible space to install Windows to.
