Started having problems opening and saving PDF files

MSE, Microsoft Security Essentials, is a full, free security suite. IT uses Windows firewall, has AV and badware protection.
However, it is not as good as some paid ones.

I tried again to download clean.exe using Firefox and it downloaded the file but then did not move it to the download file folder. I then tried to download it using IE9 and it did not work. When I went to "View Downloads" it said -This program contained a virus and was deleted - which is the same thing it says for anything I try to download.

Did the SmartScreen Filter in IE9 provide any warnings about the download?

What happens when you disable AVG?

The only thing that IE9 said was that the download had a virus and was deleted.

AVG was deleted but part of it must still be there because it keeps popping up telling me that I am not protected.

I ran a complete scan using MSE and it found nothing wrong.

You might want to use the AVG uninstaller tool.

AVG - Download tools and utilities

If you still have remnants left on your machine you might have to reinstall AVG. Then go to control panel > program and features > highlight AVG > uninstall > follow any prompts. Then immediately use the uninstaller tool.

If you decide to try other AV products in the future keep this list of uninstaller tools handy. The usual procedure is to uninstall from programs and features, then use the uninstaller tool (unless instructed otherwise.)

Something is obviously going on -- either I'm not seeing it in your DDS log or a combination of issues.

Although your best course of action is most likely a clean install, we can see if something turns up in ComboFix.

• If infections are found, ComboFix will automatically reboot the machine to complete the removal process. Please ensure all opened windows are closed before proceeding.
• Double-click ComboFix.exe on your desktop and follow the prompts.
• As part of the process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it is strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. The Recovery Console will allow you to start up the computer in a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
• When finished, a log will be produced. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
