When I boot into windows, just before the login screen, at the 'windows is starting' screen I get a pop come through my speakers. My guess is this is the sound card initialising but I never had this issue with the same hardware config using XP. It's properbly not an issue for most, but I have sensitive speakers that were not cheap and I am worried that it might be damaging them as it is a sudden sharp pop. Is anyone else experiancing this, or is it just me?

Mine does the same thing, although not on every boot. About every other boot, the sound "pops". I am using the latest drivers from Creative.

I am using the defualt sound drivers that windows 7 installed. I have looked in ASUSs website for newer drivers but there are none for windows 7, I downloaded the Vista drivers but am not sure about trying them... what do you think?

Kencelot, you and I are using almost the same motherboards. I checked on the ASUS website and both boards have the same audio chip. Why are you using creative drivers? Do you have an additional sound card?

Yes, I have the X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro and am using Creative's latest drivers yet still get that infamous "pop".

Probably caused by one of two things (or both),

1. Drivers initializing during the loading screen

2. Volume on the speakers set too high (not the Windows volume).

In the case of #2 that isn't to say that it doesn't happen when the volume is set lower, just that the volume on the speakers is set loud enough to hear it.
