then i changed to win7 ultimate 64-bit and then steam went nuts!!

When you say changed, do you mean? Upgraded or did a clean install? If you "upgraded" to W7, you may want to do a "clean" install as there have been reports of problems with doing an "upgrade" from Vista to 7.

For the time being when you made this "change" was the steam main directory (game folder, etc) on the same partition, or a different partition? If it was on a different partition, try reinstalling the steam client. What is Steam. Click "Download Steam Now" and reinstall.

If it was on the same partition and you did an "upgrade" that "might" be your problem, and a clean install of W7 might fix it.

Also, did you update your drivers for Windows 7?

And are you overclocking? If so, throttle back and test.

These questions are asked for a reason, so you might want to answer all of them.

Thanks

With FEAR2 there were no problems seen installing everything all over fresh on different installations on different drives between both 32bit and 64bit 7 RCs onto the retail 7 installs. Each game install was fresh from the start just like a fresh primary for 7 seeing the best results.

Now besides the Orange Box not being able to see that good fortune that FEAR2 saw another anoyance while not a missed game was trying to install Bioshock on the 7 RC when first available. Once activated the 32bit RC it would not go on the 64bit beta or either RC later. Toss a disk time for that one! And that's not even a Steam/Valve game there.

You could try uninstalling steam and all its games, then do a reinstall. Outside of that, good luck.

Also, If you start noticing other strange issues with your computer, you may very well need to do a clean install. But that's another issue for another time.
