Sticky Notes

I'm trying to creat a shortcut for Sticky Notes on my ObjectDock, but what appears won't work, because it can't find stikynot.exe at the given path...%windir%\system32\StikyNot.exe. The only difference between this path and where ObjectDock looks, is that instead of starting with %windir%, it looks at C:\Windows, even with the original path entered.

When I attempt to browse to the file's location either with ObjectDock or my file manager, the file doesn't appear, even though I have the OS set to show hidden & protected system files, but when I use the "find location" button in the shortcut's properties, it takes me right to it.

Why is this file sometimes visible, and other times not?

Strange, the file should be located at C:\Windows\system32\StikyNot.exe. It is not a hidden system file, so it should show up when browsing to it.

Have you already tried creating a shortcut directly from the exe file and copying it onto ObjectDock?

%windir% is C:\Windows. As has been suggested try creating a shortcut to it.

I didn't try making a shortcut directly before, because the file manager that I used didn't see it, but Windows Explorer did, but when I tried to drag it onto ObjectDock, I got the same result...it can't find it.

Why did you say that it was strange that the file be located where it is?

I cannot answer your question. But if the problem is creating a shortcut, now that you know where the file is, why not right click it and see if you can drag and drop a shortcut to ObjectDock. I am not familiar with the program, so have no idea if that is so straightforward.

I noticed that the file permissions were somewhat restricted and that might have been the cause of the problem, but I changed them to full control, yet still got the same result

I thought that it was strange that the file was not listed at that location when you browsed to it from within ObjectDock. When you open the browse window, do you have a drop down menu option towards the bottom that you can select what type of files to have displayed in the browse window? If so, make sure that you have either .exe or application type files selected to see if the StikyNot.exe may show up afterwards.

Does Sticky Notes run if you use the shortcut from within Windows 7 instead?

Not that it is relevant to the problem, but the one that couldn't see the file was Xplorer2, the one that did was Windows Explorer.

ObjectDock has a browse window, but it doesn't matter if .exe or all files are selected, it can't see the file.

No problem with getting Sticky Notes to run, either from the Start Menu, or directly from Windows Explorer.

You might see if there is a newer version of ObjectDock available. If not, you might see how RocketDock may work for you instead.

I just installed it, and the first thing that I did was to use it to navigate to stikynot.exe, and just as before, it couldn't see it. While it appears to have installed okay, there is a note on their download page as follows:

* Please note that Windows XP x64 Edition, Windows Vista 64-bit Editions, Windows 7 64-bit Editions, and alternate shells are not yet supported.

I don't know that this has anything to do with the problem, nor do I know if ObjectDock has anything similar, but I'm getting the feeling that this issue is rooted in the OS, rather than the programs involved, since I can't see anything about the file that differentiates it from all of the rest. But, I did have a similar problem with another file manager in the past...PowerDesk, and that was the reason that I went looking and found Xplorer2.
