Sticky on Office Outlook Accounts

Good information. I remember when I installed Outlook 2003 I had to hunt around for my settings during the install. But you know, no matter how hard I clean the program out when I upgrade. The new installation has found my account settings and on the initial boot it comes with the accounts and boxes all lined out. I am talking from 2003 to 2007 to 2010 Beta to 2010 RTM. Not a complaint but it's kinda spooky considering I scraped the hard disk with a knife before installing.

Hmm ... never heard of this before. You actually deleted data from Outlook, and then it came back when you upgraded?

Question: Did you save your documents prior to reformatting, and if so did you move your documents to the new documents folder?

Answer: 1. If you did the above then that one reason it could have happened. 2. When you reset your E-mail account you could have brought all the old information from the online information you provided for the first account. Just some thoughts.

Saved Files

All office documents are saved in a "Library" directory on a seperate disk. Prior to erasing the existing installation, I saved my *.pst files to that seperate disk. If that is where the config info came from that means the install code was scanning the entire computer.

Ah! Not really knowing how to put it into words but that "Library" directory is not a run of the mill directory. Is it? but the *.pst files were in an old plain vanilla temp folder.

The "Libraries" in Windows 7 are not directories at all, but rather compilations of directories. They allow you to see the contents of multiple directories in one place. If you copy/paste (or drag/drop) files into a Library, they will be moved to that Library's default directory. (The default directory of the Documents library is the My Documents folder.)
