Hello guys,

Many many times I wanted to stop that thing completely from windows but I didn't know how to, and don't tell me you can stop it from Control Panel, System bla bla bla! I made it before many times but without any positive results, the same problem still there, the problem is that when I go to /Windows/SoftwareDistribution or Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features/View Installed Updates I find the installed updates there although I stopped it!! Is there any way to stop it by adding some lines to [hosts] file or.. any ideas?!

Are you wishing to have more control over when updates happen?

Or are you wanting a computer that will never be updated?

I have updates set to Check for updates but let me decide whether to download and install them.

That setting works perfectly.

Are you saying you have it set to "Never check for updates (not recommended)"

and it still installs updates ?

What antivirus app are you using?

If Windows Defender, I think that it will continue to update.

I don't use any av app UsernameIssues furthermore I don't use Windows Defender service too, I always install Malwarebytes AM as an alternative although that app doesn't install updates automatically also. I wonder if there's any way to stop it completely via hosts file, creating a .reg or a .bat file?!

How many users are on this machine ?
Turning off the windows update system is for the most part damaging your machine and a bad thing to do

I can take that risk Trash just tell me how.

I have not examined Malwarebytes to see if its updates can be controlled. I don't have a Windows 8 Virtual Machine right now to experiment on, so I cannot add much more info to your thread.

The way you treat your computer impacts others on the internet - so I hope that you can keep the OS updates applied manually and in a timely fashion.

Why would you ask us to support the Worst possible practice one could do to their OS?

If you don't have Win7 updated fully at all times then you don't even have Windows 7.

Windows Update problems are one in a million, not worth taking reckless action to try to avoid.

If you have concerns about any feature in Win7 you should ask us about it to get a thorough education, not just start pissing on your shoe and ask us to tell you its sunshine.

Are you trying to stop updates on the Server or a workstation?
How big of network/domain are you hooked to?

It's very hard for me to understand why any body with Computer type PC/Desktop
OS Windows 8.1 Enterprise RTM [x86]
would want to do such a thing to a server.
Could you explain in more detail.

Please remember we try hard not to give advice that will hurt your computer. So more information will be helpful.

Greg, I don't ask you to tell me its sunshine, the whole thing boils down in I can't even piss on a shoe so that I asked you. ;) ~ Any ideas?!

Why do you want to do this? Let us help you resolve whatever makes you think you can't do your Windows Updates.

You've made your OS worth about a nickel ruining it like this. Why?
