Hi Guys,
I have a problem that I want to ask, its something about the file explorer on windows 7 that is kinda annoying for me.

Sometimes when I open (click or double click) a folder on the navigation pane (folder browser on the left pane of windows explorer),
somehow the folder will automatically scrolled down to the bottom,
Not always, but sometimes. Is there anyway to stop it from scrolling down unintentionally?

Any help is welcome.

Here is the screen cast:

Have you changed any system settings? Is there any defining trait as to why it happens, or does it seem random?

hi Sliverz, and welcome to sevenforums, the place to be...

yes, i feel your pain.

this is a really annoying 'feature', and seems to be default behaviour, where the currently opened folder jumps down towards the bottom of the left-hand navigation pane.

as far as i know, you can't turn it off - if anyone knows how - do please tell!

Zen00, maybe you don't have 'automatically expand to current folder' box ticked...?

if you do, then whenever you select a folder, the tree on the left-hand side scrolls so that the selected folder is right near the bottom.

it's very annoying, and i don't see why it does it.

Well, it's easy enough to turn off, just right click the navigation bar and deselect it.

yes, but both the OP and i wish to have our cake, and eat it.

that is, we want to auto expand to current folder, but not so it expands down to the bottom...

You could quit school, move into your mothers basement, and become a code hacker and rewrite Windows to the way you prefer. :)

I tried to turned it off and on, but still, sometimes the folder will just scrolled down to the bottom for no reason. It's a clean install of windows 7, I haven't installed anything.

It looks like when I open a folder (let say folder A) for the first time it will auto scroll to the bottom, but the second time, it stay still. But if I open another folder (folder B), and open folder a again, it will then jump again to the bottom. Really strange. I'll try to make a screen recording to show you the problems.

I've added a screen cast on the first post.

I know it's a bit too small, but please notice, the selected folders, and how it jumped to the base of the navigation pane when it was opened.

both with auto expand turned off and on, will give the same result for me.

This is a very stupid bug! Microsoft has done it again!!!!...
People has been complaining this since beta release... that is about a year ago, then RTM, then final release... but it still there!!! bravo!

Just for notes, this is doesnt have anything to do with auto expand "feature"

some other people complaining:

Strange folder behavior in left pane of Windows Explorer

Is there a way to disable Explorer automatic row scrolling in List view?

Folder list scrolls up when I expand a folder

Is there any other good file explorer alternative out there?

Is it really strange to see how a single person can beat up a big software giant full of supposed to be genius persons like microsoft? Maybe not...

Since I've upgrade to windows 7, somehow, I got lazy to clean-up my folders because of this stupid bugs.
Deleting and browsing things in my hard drive just become somewhat more difficult.

After much research and looking around,
I'm recommending XYplorer to replace that crappy explorer that comes with windows 7.

Is it so hard for them to make a simple software that works? something like XYplorer?
to make things that doesn't jump around randomly anytime you click something.
move your focus to the next folder after you delete something (not to the root folder).

had the same problem. frustrated me to no end as none of the solutions suggested worked. nor did a complete reload of windows. turned out to be my wireless mouse. somehow it was sending signals to pc without me pushing any buttons. As soon as I turned it off the problem immediately went away. took it apart , cleaned it, problem SOLVED! no more uncontrolled scrolling, and mouse clicks on apps menus worked again too! hope this helps.

neilw20 - your link just redirects to reply #5 which is not a solution to this issue.
:ar: "maybe you don't have 'automatically expand to current folder' box ticked."

M$ has not released any fixes/patches for this apparent bug. :note: 'entry' below can mean a drive or a folder.
The only way to avoid this behavior is to first select the expand button for the left Navigation Pane entry before selecting the actual entry name or having both the 'Automatically expand to current folder' and the 'Open each folder in the same window' boxes ticked and selecting the Navigation Pane entry and then double-clicking the entry from the right Details Pane.
