strange booting problem

I've been having this problem when turning on my pc.
Everytime I want to use my computer I have to go through this process:

1-Push power button
2-Wait for the computer to show 02 or 20 (depends from what angle you read it) on the DEBUG LED located in the back of my mobo.
When it reads 02 or 20 it just stays there, frozen, black screen and not able to go to BIOS.
3-Then I have to push reset button and if I am lucky enough my computer will boot normally without getting stucked in the same place.
Most of the time it boots normally when I do #3, when it doesn't then I have to: 4-Push the power button for 3 seconds and turn the computer back on again.

Earlier on I could not boot up the computer with any USB or FW device turned on because it would get stucked in #2. Then I discovered that by first turning on the computer and then the USB/FW devices I would be able to do the process previously mentioned to boot up properly.

I need some help, I find nowhere about this problem, I don't want to have to go through that process.
I know this sould be something easy, maybe something to do with USB ports.

Thanks for you help, any tips and recommendations for a W7 Ultimate x64 DAW are welcome..

Your motherboard BIOS is probably corrupted, because it is hanging before you get into Windows.

If you find the make and model of your computer, go to the manufacturers website and find out how to update/repair the BIOS.

thanks, I updated my bios about a month ago. It fixed some booting problems I was having a lot worse than the one currently happening.

I read about the 02 or 20 digits in the debug LED in my mobo's manual and it says that it has to do with something like the APIC or ACPI mode, which I know nothing about.

I just chose the "LOAD SAFE DEFAULT VALUES" option in the BIOS so everything sets up automatically.

Thanks

That is a setting in the BIOS, I forget for what specifically. I would go find it, and dis/enable it.

I found a forum thread all about APIC/ACPI. here is the link

Sharing IRQs - Rage3D Discussion Area

Hope this helps you

Thanks , that;s a lot of reading for just a single setting to find and disable...

DO I have to start reading about sharing IRQ's, Apic, Acpi and all of that in order to find that single setting???

What if that is not the problem??

thanksss

ok, there is no info on my mobo's manufactures site on how to REPAIR bios. There is just an .iso an .bin files to download fromsupport section.

A month ago I used the ISO file burned to disk to update the file. I believe everything went fine.

How can I perform a bios repair in this case??

Thanks a lot

In what order are your Boot Devices listed in the BIOS?

Does the BIOS keep your settings after a power off cycle?

What PSU do you have?

Bios keeps setting after power off cycle.

It's a new PSU, a replacement for the one that came with the case.

OK, we'll assume the new PSU is good (unless that's when the problem started) and that your CMOS battery is also fine.

Is Windows on the Hitachi or the Western Digital hard drive? If it's on the Western Digital (WDC), set it to be first.

I would check all of my mobo connections carefully, swap cables to see if it makes a difference.

Test your RAM using memtest86 CD scan overnight to stress test, or at least 5-6 passes. Swap your RAM sticks.

Test your HD's using maker's full diag/repair CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

I would also make sure the MBR is not damaged by booting the Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, clicking through to Recovery Tools list to Run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots to let it repair or rewrite the MBR. Just to make sure all is correct, mark your Win7 partition Active first: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/71432-partition-mark-active.html

goshhhh

Hi people, I am still struggling with this situation.
I wonder if anyone know here how to uninstall my motherboards drivers that windows installed automatically.
Someone assured me that the culprit of my problem is a driver conflict because I should install them manually.
A problem that usually happens with xfx 750i sli mobo's.

So please, someone could show me how to remove the already installed drivers so I can install the ones I: downloaded from XFX site..

THANKS!!!

It isn't necessary to uninstall the mobo drviers. Just download the latest Win7 Chipset from the SUpport Downloads webpage for your model computer or mobo, rightclick to Run as Admin and let it install.

If there is a problem, you'll need to go into the ReadMe to find out what drivers are included in package, then browse to the unzipped file location of the chipset from each Device's Driver tab until it picks up the driver, e.g. SATA controller, SM bus, etc.

Others may have a better way to do it, but this has worked for me in cases except the rare case where the chipset package installs correctly and asks for a restart, but then no Device drivers are updated.

There may also be additional installation steps to follow in the included ReadMe file beyond just executing the file as Admin, then restarting when prompted.
