Solved Strange PSU fault.

This morning I noticed my GPU's (CF7950's) didn't seem to be as snappy as normal. Popped the side panel and I see I don't have power to the second card. Do some basic checking and I find the connector for the second card has no output. Cable continuity is good, no power at the PSU plug, poop the bed!

This is a Thermaltake Smart M series 850 watt unit that is never pushed over 500 watts, according to the APU watt gadget. Ten months old, oh well. I check out Thermaltakes RMA process, poop the bed again! If I send the PSU in I may in six weeks, receive a used/refurbed unit as replacement from the "pool".

Off to buy a new PSU. The Sea Sonic X850 is at the top of the list, anyone have this psu?

I have a 650 series seasonic, very good psu's, you will be happy

Thanks, narrowed it down to either a Seasonic 850 gold or a Cooler Master 850 gold. Going to check the rma process on both.

Seasonic 850 gold is a great supply - I have one. And pretty much completely silent with the hybrid fan mode. And a 5 yr warranty. You may want to look at their X 650 or 750. Sounds like you don't need 850. I only have that much watts because it was on sale for a very good price - quite a bit lower than the 650 or 750 at the time.

Newegg has these on sale often for good prices. I got the X-850 from there at $110.

I should have a new Seasonic 850 gold two days from now.

After several hours of reading reviews and test data plus user feedback anything but Seasonic is foolish. J/K lots of good PSU's on the market, but the Seasonic has the highest user feedback of any brand I read about. It seems like you can find about 10% of users have problems even with quality PSU's, with Seasonic it's more like 1%, and they rode the short bus.

The packaging is very nice, the 24 pin ATX cable is sleeved, the remainder are the flat style. The psu and cable set come in very nice bags, that you would never use after installing. I'd be happy with less window dressing and a lower price. Construction appears to be top notch, plenty of modular ports for mobo, pci and peripherals, way more than the Thermaltake 850 it's replacing. I'm temped to sell my AX1200i and get a Seasonic PLATINUM-1000 or SS-1050X for my 9590 project.

I need to set aside some time to install it and do a minor remodel while I'm inside the box.

Yes they do package them quite nicely. I am very happy that I went them for my psu.

Those case photo's are nice, good wire routing and those Noc's are nice.

I'm stressing with my current build with the wiring. I have six bay devices, six added internal ubs2 headers, dual d5's. I swear there's a mile of wire inside.

I'm doing my first RAID setup with this build, a pair of 128 ssd's in raid0 and a pair of 600 Vraptors in raid0.
