I'm trying to connect a second Samsung SSD - the first is an 850 EVO and the second an 860 EVO. When the second SSD is plugged into the PSU it will only make an abortive attempt to start (lights flash briefly, I have to hold down power button to power off, but no fans and/or action besides that).

The PSU is an OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W ATX, which I'm aware is pretty elderly. Is this just a case of asking too much from it, or is it another issue?

Many thanks for any light shed on this.

Hi to test remove the 850 EVO and use the 860 EVO I know it wont boot cause not having an operating system on it. but computer should still startup meaning you should still be able to get to the bios.

Hi, apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I've tried just connecting the new drive and it does the same thing - an aborted startup and then nothing.

Any thoughts?

Did you use the power and data connectors from the old disk and connect them to the new disk?

If you used the connectors that worked with the old disk - then the issue is the new disk

Just tried and it boots up fine when using the old connectors - is this a problem with the connectors then?

Sounds like it. I think your next course of action is a new reputable and well reviewed PSU.
