Strange Startup - Monitor

The Compaq laptop with windows 7 starts up with a black screen, as soon as I start it up it will start the cooling fan but the screen does nothing but just a black screen. Before this happend, I was playing minecraft and then left it and when I came back the computer had automaticly locked, I tried to put my password in then it would not let me type, no keys would come up. I then put down the laptop lid then when I lifted it up again and it just was a black screen, I tried to startup again but still black screen. It is really odd. Do you think it is stuck in hibernation or something?

It could be the Power Plan Settings. Try changing them; it might help.

Maybe your computer is sleeping. Set higher time before going to sleep,or disable it. Choose: Put computer to sleep to Never,or 1h maybe.

You could have had a hardware failure.

First - if the laptop is currently on and running - perform a hard shutdown: press and hold down the power button for about 10 seconds. The laptop should shut off. Wait about 30 seconds and then try and turn it on. See if it will startup normally. You may get a "Windows was not shut down properly" message - Yes, we know!

If that does not work then try a reset: Do the hard shutdown, unplug the power supply, and then remove the battery. With the battery out, press the power button for about 10 seconds to discharge any residual power. Put the battery back in, connect the power supply and then try and turn it on.

If the laptop is simply stuck in sleep mode these procedures would bypass that.
